agamemnon3
'The Drunken Bums of Aston Clinton' No, not a lost Agatha Christie novel, or a missing episode of 'Midsomer Murders', but the reason for there being no football at AFC Southgate on Saturday. AC had played Flackwell Heath in the Wycombe Senior Cup the night before, and spent so long celebrating their 1-0 victory that they were all too hungover, (or still too drunk), to turn up the next day. Interestingly, on April 24th, in post 47 of the 'Next Season' thread, the SSML Fixtures Secretary makes it clear that Aston Clinton had been told that the Wycombe Senior Cup does not have priority over SSML fixtures. But hey, what does it matter what the League thinks when the cans of lager just keep on coming ? It was due to be AFC Southgate's last ever game. A small reception had been planned, and it was thought that people were travelling from as far as Nottingham, Birmingham and Scarborough to be there. But hey, once again, what does any of that matter, just as long as those cans keep coming ? So well done, Aston Clinton, true professionals all. No sign of any apology on your website or twitter feed yet either --- what a truly classy bunch you must be...

They should be deducted points and receive a big fine too, honestly so out of order especially as it was AFC Southgate's last game. Total lack of respect from Aston Clinton, sunday league behaviour on their behalf !!!
Tom24
Yes it’s disgusting that a team should have to play 2 games in the space of 24 hours. Also how long have your club been going because it seems like you’ve had a long history but from my recollection you’ve not been going that long. Shouldn’t rely on other teams for you to have a send off, Aston Clinton have had a great season and if they wanna celebrate a cup final win then so be it, don’t be jealous it’s not a good look

Yes Aston played a game Friday in which they won and probably did celebrate (though this is unknown) . Asking any team to play two games within 24 hours (Final 7.45, league 3) poses a threat to the players safety which is in the best interest of the referee to protect the players. For me, this was the right idea of postponing the game. Not only as a club should you believe the same and respect the players safety, but also congratulate them in winning the cup and representing the league on doing well. This is a good achievement. If you was in the same position, you would also understand. Please make a good image for your club, not make it look bad with a post like this. In regards to the travelling of the supporters, such distances named are not too far. I am sure they would also understand the reasoning behind this, and as you stated 'a small reception had been planned' if all fans travelling are committed, they will not mind making this journey on another date. P.s it was raining Saturday so saved them from getting wet. Win Win.
