Oxford City on a reduced budget for next season have released 6 players.

An interesting player to leave because he wants a new challenge is Freddie Grant a young talented defender who by chance is a friend of Scott Davies.

Freddie Grant is a left back, we don't need one of those........unless you know different !

He seems highly rated,so I wouldn't think he would be short of offers.

I would prefer to go after Godfrey Poku - ex Woking and Oxford City.

Pretty sure his CV say's he can play right or left back and also in the center of defence.

Godfrey Poku lives in South East London and say's he's had offers nearer to home. Do we need another midfielder?

Poku can play anywhere across the back line but also is combative midfielder. At Woking he played mainly in centre midfield but with Oxford City he has been largely in centre of defence or at right back.

From what I know, he isn't an abrasive character and I would say he is more like Charlie Mpi ie down to earth and humble.

So all round I would say he is exactly the type of player we should be looking for now.  Someone not full of themselves, who comes with plenty of experience of the Conference and Conference South and is no shrinking violet. Adaptable but also adding to the solidity of our team.

If he was willing to travel to Woking and Oxford, Slough should be a piece of cake. I would have thought he would be ideal for us at this current time.

SE London to Woking is closer than Slough though, although traveling to Oxford is some commitment 2-3 times a week! I wonder when we’ll be told of any player activity as a lot of clubs are pretty busy already.

Last season we got told that signing players now, is just players giving their word that they are commiting to the new club.

Has things changed on this front ie is players signing now set in stone?

Same as it’s always been, sign a contract then you can make it public that they’ve signed or if not you wait until league forms are signed. Obviously you can take a players word but that can backfire. Being a step 2, contracts will be a lot more common.

Chill out guys.... ha ha

Won’t be lots of announcements for you at this stage, we are making plans and have sat down with Steve, however lots of things to think about.

We are in the process of speaking to the players in the next few days, after giving everyone a weeks break to enjoy the promotion.

The majority of the lads know what we have planned.

No doubt we will bring some new players in, however I would not expect huge changes, as we have huge belief in this group to play and compete at the higher level, and it might be a case that we strengthen further as we adapt to the league.

We have a large number who have already played the level before, and are at an optimum level where a large number are coming into their prime.

We want to be very competitive, however we will not go for players that we don’t believe are right for us, and are happy to bide our time a bit, as so many players become available later in the summer in this league (from players who filter down from pro teams etc).

I can assure you however that we have had a huge number of players make contact with us already, as we are a good option, but we won’t be rushing into anything unless we are 100 per cent sure.

Speculation is all fun and games, however i can assure you that none of the names you have mentioned are not on our radar.

Glen is correct.

Yes, clubs at our level are announcing lots of signings but in the main they are players that have signed contracts which is more the norm once you reach step 1 and 2.

Dowson confirmed as Woking boss with the sole aim of getting them promoted at the first attempt

Agree with what Neil says above, will be like when we went into the Southern Prem and almost everyone returned with a few new faces and then we made adjustments as we learnt the league.....

I'm more excited and eager to hear about Season Tickets and Pre season friendlies ;)

Can the season start now please....forget all this World cup nonsense

It makes sense that the vast majority of the squad are given a crack at the National South as they’re the ones who got us there. No doubt we’ll sign 2 or 3 but the same number may depart but as Neil said the player situation will be reviewed as the season progresses and new players will be added if need be. Hopefully we can get a big home friendly as we’re a more attractive proposition being a higher level and great facilities.

I dont think Neil / Jon are doing anything different this season to other seasons. Each close season, the same thing is said, unless 100% fit for the club etc.... Hasnt done us any wrong in the last 5 years.

I remember posting something along similar lines when we first got promoted to the Southern League and I'll say again, lets consolidate in the NLS next season and build from there, but sure the gaffers will feel different to me and set standards higher.

Just want to see us progress, even if means slowly slowly.

Yes, you are right to a certain extent,CR but it very much depends on the club's aims and what finances are available.

Besides this forum needs Slough FC / non league football discussion post season, otherwise it will be obsolete.

I think we can surprise a few teams next season.as to how good we are but would like to see a couple of marquee signings to keep the positive vibes going.

Bakes,Unders,Trent or any of us fans, know for certain, how well the team we will do in the Conference South.

My opinion is that we saw the benfits of signing proven quality when Scott Davies, Matt Day and Perry Coles signed for us, when our team needed a pick me up.

Now, with promotion into the highest division Slough have been for years, we have a big chance of pushing on and doing ourselves justice in this new division, not just being relegation fodder but a team, that no opposition will have an easy ride agaist.

Yes we need to consolidate in the division but we also need to get off to a flying start, as the points we get early doors will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

Hence why a couple of big signings are important.

Unless we sign some big players (size wise) again we are going to be the smallest squad in the division.

Does anyone think this will be a problem in the Conference South or just like last season we have the quality and the players to overcome this?
