Conference South

A lot of Hampton's new signings appear to be from Hendon.... I can't comment specifically on the individual players but thought we were far better than Hendon in both matches last season, and we have strengthened since those matches.

Perhaps my memory fails me but I thought both games were fairly close.

James Hammond was the right back that got sent off for Farnborough against us at their place on the bank holiday Monday, don’t think he played again for them after.

Bakes, it seems James Hammond played for Farnborough in September and October joining Hendon in February.

Woking this season will be Hampton and Richmond in disguise, and Hampton and Richmond will be be Hendon in disguise.

Reminds me of when Slough became Godalming in disguise, a few years back ! ha ha !

On the Woking and the H+R forums, there is fierce debate on the merits of the signings of both of their new managers, which makes for interesting reading.

What I can't believe is the amount of fans that slag off new players before they've even kicked a ball for their team.

To be fair Bakes and Unders were very shrewd when they became our managers, in who they kept and who they let go and in the main got it right, though perhaps they were hasty in a few players cases of who they showed the door to, in the first instance.

Anyway, all water under the bridge now but the reason I mentioned it, is that both sets of fans of Woking and Hampton, seem to think that the players they are now signing are lesser players to the quality they've had in the recent past

Many of the Woking fans are finding it hard to accept they are in the Conference South.  While the Hampton fans seem to think because they made the play offs last season, that entitles them to be among the best again this season. To me both sets of fans have illusions of grandeur.

I think there are going to be an awful lot of clubs/managers and fans disappointed with their clubs showing at the end of the season because the Conference South looks particularly strong in the depth of club in this league now, and with the number of sides that share their lofty ambitions to get automatic promotion or make the play offs.

Hopefully, our management and fans will take a more pragmatic view of our forthcoming season.
