Monday 7th. May : Kings Lynn Town v Slough Town play-off final

Recommended Posts

Anyone clued up on the trains in to Kings Lynn, is it possible get there avoiding Ely? Coming from Gloucester I can get a direct train to Peterborough but then it's a bus replacement from there to Ely which I'd rather avoid.

This link shows you the stations that the hourly Kings Cross - Kings Lynn train stops at on Monday :-

Unfortunately for you, that is the only train service from anywhere into Kings Lynn on Monday. The rail replacement bus is shown as leaving Peterborough at twenty-five minutes past the hour and takes one hour twenty minutes to Ely, arriving six minutes before the departure of the train to Kings Lynn.

There is one practical solution.

The XL Peterborough - King's Lynn - Norwich express bus stops at Peterborough Railway Station on bank holidays at 44 minutes past each hour from 09.44 and takes 1 hour 28 minutes to Kings Lynn Railway Station. The return runs well into the evening.

So starting to get little ( alright a lot) excited about Monday now. I am driving up and heading off relatively early, is there a good pub for lunch close to the ground does anybody know, or is there a pub the rebels are meeting up in? Thanks

Not sure about good, but there is a Wetherspoons called The Globe on King St, about 20 mins walk from the ground. Might head there first for some cheap grub.

I am very much more a rebel than a brewer (50 years supporting versus 3 when we briefly lived in the Midlands.) But since the Brewers suffered a major disappointment today I'm hoping the rebels make up for it even more than I was already.

In eighteen hours time we will see Bakes and Unders unfurl their game plan for coping with the "Big'uns" of King's Lynn. My other team knows how to make use of a "Big'un" :-

For anyone not attending the game, I noticed that the commentary for the big match is on the BBC I player, so you have the option of listening to our beloved team, winning, through the telly.

Congratulations to everyone at the club. What a fantastic season. Love that Manny got the goal that clinched it too. Did the trilby make an appearance? Roll on next season!

What a day to be a Rebel:)

The whole team today worked their socks off against an excellent KL side who made it tough from start to finish for us.

Fans were amazing and easily held their own in the singing stakes and the celebrations at the end showed how classy our fans are. It is fairly apparent that when the chairman of KL talks about trouble with Hereford and Weymouth, it probably came from their fans!

An emotional end with thoughts of the Rebels we have lost this season, but what a season the team have given them to watch where ever they are.

Conference South here we come, WE ARE GOING UP, SAY WE ARE GOING UP!!!!

A very well played game where we controlled KL’s height and physical game and limited their chances, yet created enough opportunities ourselves and scored the required goals.

Floods goal before half time took the sting out of their attack, and then Manny scoring in the 89th just finished them off a treat.

We massively out sang them and put them to shame even though we were outnumbered 8 to 1.

Glad that the segregation was in place and the stewards on our side did a good job.

However KL’s organisation of the event was a shambles – the ticketing was a joke with their local fans still cueing to get tickets when the game should have kicked off and this was not even a capacity game.

They then moved the segregation, reducing the gap between the two groups of fans, and this allowed the local trouble makers to try and pick fights with the non-aggressive Slough fans.

At the final whistle the local KL thugs got on the pitch needing the presence of the police including dogs to gain control, whilst the Slough fans were peacefully celebrating their victory with the players and management.

And as the local inbreeds could not fight the Slough fans they then started fighting amongst their own and the police.  Looked like there were several arrests and the magistrates will be busy tomorrow.

This violence by the KL fans was not helped by KL’s willingness to sell as much beer as they could on the terraces to those who were clearly already in an unfit state.

KL has some real issues to deal with in who they let into their ground and how they manage them, as there did look like 90% of the home fans were genuine and welcoming but 10% had no interest in football at all.

We however will not need to worry about KL next season as Neil and Jon have done their magic again and won us promotion, by putting together an honest, hardworking, talented, fit, disciplined……… team of players who link with the supporters and play some of the most entertaining football around.

Steve Easterbrook’s stewardship of the club is second to none and should be seen as the gold standard of how to run a football club, and then the army of volunteers who just get on with the detail of getting games arranged and all the right bits in the right places – vastly underrated, but greatly appreciated by all the fans of STFC.

This season must now rate as one of, if not the most successful seasons ever for the club, 2nd round FA cup, 99 points, highest goals tally, and now promotion.

Long gone are the dark days on the mid 2000’s when every close season threated uncertainties, and myself and the other mad individuals would turn up at places like East Thurrock and their bus shelter with the likes of Programmes Dave, Dave Carpenter and the Sliski himself to watch Super Kev fixing the myriad of players we could find for a game.  And big Chris would always say things would get better, and low and behold they have, even more than we could ever have believed.

It’s so sad they are not here to bath in the milk and honey with us. We are a family and community club and their contributions to where we are now will always be remembered and held in the clubs folklore.

This season has added to that folklore in so many ways, and Mannys goal taking us to the promised land will be up there too.

A new league and a new season await and plenty more chapters to be forged.

STFC – the future!

Couldn't agree more Rebel165 about the KL organisation of the whole day. It was almost like they had never seen a crowd before. From our vantage point in the stand the lines to get in were 3 times as long at 3pm than they were at 2.15.

Add to that the numpties at the end of the game and it shows that regardless of how good their side is, their club is not ready for a bigger league.

We on the other hand are 100% ready, as we have shown on numerous occasions both on and off the pitch this year. Roll on next season and the new league.
