Kettering at home 2nd May 2018 19.45 Play-off Semi-Final

Just excellent! Was concerned when they equalised as they were on top for a lot of the first half. But second half we controlled it and 2 well taken penalties has got us through. I though we defended resolutely and looked very composed. Shame we have to travel all that way but our away form isn’t too bad is it especially recently! We should go into with confidence and I hope we can take at least 200 there.

Well played game by Slough with a good plan and we undid Ketterings hoof and chase game.

Jack as usual kept us in the game with some great saves.

Ref allowed some strong challenges to go, but at least he made the right call with the penalites.

All credit to Ketting they gave it a go and their fans did them credit by travelling in good numbers and good voice - pity they cannot control their management who required the constant attention of the 4th official due to their poor behaviour.

Looking forward to the trip on Monday

Also we had a bigger gate then KL.

Very pleased with that result but did expect it Disappointed with the gate although it did edge the gate at KL Let's get that promotion now I'm sure we won't get gates worthy of a town our size until we play again at higher levels KL just edged it when they played us at home and we had a weakened team We can win it!!

Congratulations to Bakes and Unders on the fantastic job they've done this season and a very well deserved place in the Playoff final.

The players showed good character again tonight to dig in and find a way when it looked like Kettering were starting to turn the screw.

Some odd decisions from the officials I thought though. Their goal seemed offside from where I was and looked like the officials bottled it having already ruled out a Kettering goal. Then our first pen had a touch of evening things up. A strange one, the defender clearly got the whole of the ball but it was from behind, but without going through the man. Would have been angry if it was given against us. The second pen, totally the keepers fault for dropping the ball and then flying in but couldn't see if there was actually much contact. Not complaining though and a deserved result all done.

What a night !  Great team effort all round.

Don't often agree with the sponsors man of the match award but thought they were spot on when awarding it to Sean Fraser tonight, as he had a blinder IMO.

First twenty five minutes we played well but then Kettering started to get some joy running at our defence and so 1-1 seemed a fair score going in at half time but after the interval Slough got the bit between their teeth again and got back on the front foot and reaped the rewards.

Kettering still had opportunities but fortunately we weathered anything that was thrown at us, and also had the odd slice of luck for us to get over the finishing line..

Don't know what the Kettering manager was moaning about, as both penalties were stonewall ones.

Kings Lynn away is going to be a toughie but Slough have nothing to fear and I believe we can cause an upset there.

..............It's in our hands.

Absolutely superb win from the boy's tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the game itself, Kettering had obviously done their homework and thought our weakness was in the air and for virtually the whole game kept pumping the ball to the massive lump that is Rene Howe. TBF to them he won the vast majority in the first half and was the catalyst for a lot of their attacking moves.

Good opportunist goal from Perry Coles capitalizing from a mis-timed header back to their keeper from their number 6. After that I thought Kettering started coming into the game more and more and a not so good attempt at a headed clearance on the edge of our area lead to the equalizing goal.

I don't know what was said at half time but we came out firing in the second half and took control of the game nullifying to a large extent Kettering's continued use of the long ball to Howe. Have to say the Kettering supporters must have been disappointed that they didn't seem to have a plan B.

From my view the penalties looked stonewall and credit to the Ref who had a much better view than me agreed.

Not sure if it was outside of the 5 minute curfew for keeping the ball in the corner  ;)  but over the 90 minutes + I thought we thoroughly deserved the win.

Some exceptional performances all round tonight but for me the players who had blinders were Lee Togwell, George Wells, Warren Harris and Jack Turner.

My MOTM goes to Lee Togwell.

Thought Sean had a blinder and well done for MOM award but mine would have been Davies who just oozed class in the middle and kept us completely composed while Toggs did his usual terrier like running .

Absolutely credit to the managers as I did not put him in my starting 11 but to put him in ahead of Dunn and Lench shows real insight ( especially as we won )

Prediction 3-1 Slough.

Attendance, 1,100.

What do I win for the score prediction?!

Not far off for the attendance either.

My daughter enjoyed herself again, particularly the sumbrero chap!

Well done all involved, great result to cap a great season.....one more to go!!

For my pennies worth, from my angle (in the ref's sight line) the first pen looked like a foul and i could see why it was given. If the 2nd pen was given against us (all be it, the keepers own doing) you'd be fuming!!

Fingers crossed there's big numbers making the journey Monday, the lads deserve it!

From by the away dugout and having seen the videos I'd see it exactly the other way (and so did the Kettering fans I was close to.) First pen defender clearly gets the ball then Dobbo's momentum takes him over the defender's leg. Whilst I've seen them given I think it was a harsh decision. 2nd one, the goalie having had the ball nicked is late and clearly only gets the man. Stonewall pen for me.

It was a tense game, exciting with some immense defending. I'm just glad we scored both pens. Thought we deserved to win but probably not by 2 on balance of play.
