CHESHUNT 1  HORNCHURCH 1

Hornchurch were without Jay Porter, Theo Fairweather-Johnson and Kenzer Lee, and Sam Mott was rested for the rearranged match at a windswept and at times rainy Cheshunt. George Purcell scored one of his long range specials, and that is the way the score stayed until the final minute of stoppage time, when Ricky Sappleton headed the equaliser from a free kick.

Manager Craig Edwards congratulated Hornchurch on their promotion, and his players lined up to applaud them onto the pitch, a very nice gesture.

Hornchurch had the first scoring opportunity on four minutes when Chris Assombalonga was fouled ten yards outside the area. Purcell took the free kick, curled his shot over the wall, but just wide of the post.

Cheshunt quickly adapted to the strong wind and Ricky Sappleton played the ball to Kyle Roberts but his shot went wide. Cheshunt them won three corners in quick succession, with Harry Palmer making a good save from a Sappleton header.

Palmer was again in action, saving well from a Sappleton free kick, resulting in two further corners, with Alex Bentley clearing a shot off the line, whilst Emil Aiken sent a shot over the bar from outside the area.

Hornchurch began to press forward, and Sean Roberts sent a shot narrowly wide, and Nathan Cooper made a good tackle to thwart a Cheshunt attack, and quickly moved upfield before playing the ball to Purcell, whose shot beat the defence but went wide of the post.

On the half hour mark, Brad Warner replaced Nathan Livings who limped off, and play was confined to midfield with both defences in command, until, on 39 minutes, George Purcell gained possession, moved forward a few paces, and unleashed a powerful shot that screamed past Aaron Bull and into the net.

With half time approaching, Hornchurch had a scare when the ball was crossed into the goalmouth, but Bentley tackled well to concede a corner.

Cheshunt started confidently after the interval, and Alex Fiddes, who had just come on for Amadou Kassarate, almost broke through, but was tackled by Nathan Cooper, and back at the other end Bull saved well from a Warner free kick.

Jamie Hursit conceded a free kick in a dangerous position, but the defensive wall meant that Palmer did not need to make the save, and for a time play was concentrated at the Cheshunt end of the field, where they survived corners from both Purcell and Warner, and keeper Bull made a good save to keep out a Purcell shot.

Jed Chouman replaced Chris Assombalonga and linked up with Purcell on the left, before homing in on goal, but Michael Spencer made a good interception, turning the ball out for a corner.

Leon McKenzie went close with a long range shot that was just a fraction too high, and play continued to swing from end to end, with Palmer saving well from Sappleton.

As the rain began to increase in intensity, Palmer made two more saves as Cheshunt tried hard for an equaliser, and it came in the final minute of stoppage time, from a disputed free kick on the right, from which Ricky Sappleton rose high to head powerfully home.

Can't fault him when he congratulates our players and has his team line up to clap the lads onto the pitch. He has savedp Cheshunt from relegation this season and I agree with cup of tea if he stays with Cheshunt they will be one to watch next season if he gets the players he wants.

As much as I hate to admit it, Ming is a decent manager and Cheshunt is a club with potential.

They will be further up the league next season.

Ming also serves a decent cup of tea at his Tea Shop in the middle of Hornchurch town centre
