Play off contenders

A thread to discuss any teams in the play offs.

Tonight is of course Kettering vs Weymouth in potentially a mini play off for 3rd place.

Weymouth have put the leagues top scorer, Brandon Good ship, on the bench.

I would guess neel or Jon are their and wouldn't be surprised if Culverhouse is too.

I still think if we can win our last three matches, which will be difficult to achieve, then we will finish above Kings Lynn or Kettering.

I like your optimism,Curtis but I think we will have our work cut out to get 9 points. While I'm expecting us to beat Dorchester, this is a tricky fixture as they are far better at home than they are away.

Royston have some quality players. They can't be a bad side, given where they are in the table. I think a draw at their place on a Tuesday night is more likely.

Very much depends on what focus the Royston players have for their final two games of the season, when they have nothing to play for.

I expect us beat Royston at home. So I would say 7 points are more likely than 9 but it could only be 3 !

............... that should fire our players up........

I too am thinking 7 points is more likely which I think with the form of others will keep us 5th slight chance of 4th. Also think Kettering will get at least a draw at Hereford as they’re bang in form and need the points whereas Hereford may be in party mode.

If we won all our last 3 games it would need Kettering to lose 2 from 3 and KL to lose 1 from 2 games to have the possibility of pipping them on goal difference.

In all likely hood it's not going to happen and in reality we are contesting Weymouth for 4th spot with IMO 7 points required to virtually guarantee us that 4th spot.

Don't worry Royston will be focussed.

They will want to get one over us to give a little reminder that on their day they are as good if not better than a team that are in the play-offs.

7 points would get us 4th Glen, as our GD compared to Weymouth will be too much for them to claw back, especially as to get 7 points we would have to win 2 and draw.

Well worked out, Neil, that two wins and a draw gives us 7 points ! ha ha ha !

If Kettering lose at Hereford and draw one of their other two matches they will finish on 98 points.

If Kings Lynn lose one of their last two they will finish on 99 points, and if we won our remaining three we would be likely to better their goal difference.

If we can keep the pressure on them by winning, I think there is a possibility one of them will slip up.

What I meant by that is we can’t get a negative goal difference from those games, and therefore they would need to make up 6 goals on our wins, as we have better gd by plus 5 and we have scored more so they need a better GD than us, so IMO 7 points will 100 per cent get us 4th.

Hereford want either Kettering or Kings Lynn to go up so that could be an interesting game! Not sure where the idea that Dorchester are good at home comes from They are certainly better than their terrible away record but they've lost nine home games only five out of twenty four clubs have done worse At the end of the season they are eighteenth for a reason and we should get the three points.

'Better at home than away' does not mean they are good at home.

Why would Hereford want Kettering or Kings Lynn to go up? Or do you mean a few fans on their forum have expressed an opinion?

It was postulated several weeks ago that if another team considered southern I.e. Slough or Weymouth was promoted then Hereford would be shunted to Conference North if a northern team I.e. Kettering or Kings Lynn were promoted then Hereford would go to Conference South Manager Beadle has said he believes the South would be easier than the North based on the teams it contains Anyway this game is almost sold out and well over 4000 will be attending for the game and the shield presentation thereafter.

The Hereford v Kettering game is a difficult one to call.

As champions Hereford will want to put on a show for the expected large crowd but will the players be in party mode?

In theory Kettering should have a few tired legs but will be busting a gut to get a result to cement a home game in the play-offs.
