Ash Trees 1 United 1

Zzzzz…..hmm, what? Sorry?

A real end-of-season feel to this game on an unusually bobbly pitch. A soporific first half, with Thame missing three unmarked headers. Tyler pulled off two brilliant saves either side of half time before we scored with our first real effort in the 51st minute, and what an effort, as Tom Howard picked the ball up just outside the box, jinxed past three players across the edge of the area and hit an unstoppable shot low into the far corner from 15 yards out. Another classic Tom goal – he just doesn’t do tap-ins!

Unfortunately, four minutes later, United equalised when Dan West met a far post cross six yards out  and powered a looping header across goal and in. United had at least three more unmarked headers, went forward whenever they could and deserved to win in all honesty. We tried more in the second half but looked a bit leggy.

If we seemed a bit jaded tonight, goodness knows how we’ll do if we’re made to play the last four league games in eight days – as well as having to play the postponed Easter game away at Moneyfields next Tuesday, rumour has it that no-show Marlow are pushing to play the rescheduled game on the Thursday, two days before we travel to title chasing AFC Rushden and Diamonds….and at THEIR ground! Bedford were made to play a strike–hit game away at Fleet Town, so it’ll be very interesting to see what decision the powers that be come up with.

Swifty, what did you think of Thame United?

In all honesty, I thought Thame United should have won. Fair to say both teams were hampered by a bobbly pitch and a wind which sent passes skywards and / or off the playing surface, but when United got going they were purposeful going forward, especially in the second half. Apart from the two magnificent saves our keeper made, I forgot to mention a superb double goalline clearance from our lads midway through the second half.

Thanks for the reply, Swifty.

Being that both teams are mid-table this season, it will be interesting to see how you both do next season. Have a soft spot for both clubs,so hope you both can push up the table.

3 Spirit- bearing in mind Thame and Ashford will be in different leagues next season after the re-shuffle.

Never realised that, Manurgrate. I rather like the East[central] division for local-ish action. It will be interesting to see what teams are placed where.

My team, Slough, look like they are gping to be put in a newly formed South West Premier division rather than the Midlands orientated Southern Premier division, that we are in now.

Not sure what to make of it, yet.
