Swifty
A better performance than last week, and a deserved win though the victory margin was cruel on Uxbridge. We took the lead in the 12th minute when Mitch met a near post corner with a brilliant bullet header, his body virtually parallel to the pitch. Uxbridge put us under a lot of pressure and got a deserved equaliser in the 44th when Cory Watson headed home. Uxbridge then discovered how cruel football can really be just after the break, as our defence switched off and gave Cole Brown the chance to give the visitors the lead. His first shot hit the inside of the post, his second was cleared off the line, and his skewed third was pumped up the pitch whereupon a fine move ended with Tom Howard lashing the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box in the 47th. We grew in confidence and gave an assured attacking display thereafter but, in a clean contest, Uxbridge never gave up and still caused problems. We stretched our lead when the ref gave a soft looking penalty for a foul on Tom H and Mitch stroked the 71st minute spot kick into the corner, and the icing on the Easter egg was applied three minutes from time when another fine move involving both Toms was finished off by Conor, who’d come on as a striker sub and didn't look out of place further up the field than usual. Tom H understandably won the plaudits, but I was very impressed by Elliott, who was handed the left back jersey in the absence of Sami and Fish and played as if he’d been in that position for years. In terms of entertainment, the game was as tasty as the complimentary hot dog!
