v Basingstoke

Recommended Posts

Ultimately this was a very good win at a ground their manager called 'Fortress Camrose' in the pre-match build up.

Started slowly and made the obligatory defensive mistake to concede a goal within a minute.

Again showed some real character to equalize very quickly and then to take the lead before half-time.

We were much the better side in the second half to run out comfortable winners.

Close between Dunny and Manny for MOTM but overall I thought Simon Dunn had an excellent game and was my MOTM.

COYR!!

I would go the other direction and give it to Manny RR, but once again there were numerous candidates for the MOM award.

The 2 new guys looked very, very good. Davies in particular impressed and the touch to set up George Wells for his goal was superb. Day looks like the type of player that you will never notice, but will do everything well. 2 excellent recruits at this stage of the season.

Only downside was Ben Harris's injury. Finger and toes crossed he isn't too bad as with some very big games to come, having him and Floody back fit would be a massive boost to the squad.

Big game coming Tuesday, hopefully we can go there and perform like today and we'll be in with a very good chance.

RR I know we've a few difficult games ahead but that's also/more so true of our nearest rivals Jon/Neil seem to have once again recruited well and we are functioning as a team again 2 consecutive 4-1 away wins show that I'm confident we'll be in POs

Good to see Chesham got spanked today.

I went on their Twitter, Facebook and Forum to see how their game panned out and absolutely nothing about the game.

They really are a tin pot outfit especially when they lose.

Now where's that half-wit ChesFan when you need him

Great performance by the players yesterday, and good to hear the fans in non-stop chant mode for the first time this season as well.

The ref had a completely mixed game, where he was great at stopping the play and getting a physio on, when required, but baffling players with the yellow cards.

I was right next to the corner flag when Manny got his, and it went like this.

Manny puts the ball down for the corner (OK, it was a foot outside the quadrant, but the ref failed to see this)

The ref blows for the corner to come in

Manny gets ready to take it

The ref blows again, so Manny stops

The ref then rushes over and has a go at Manny for time wasting, and gives him a yellow. He also completely fails to see the ball is not in the corner quadrant.

I thought the new boys gave us an added dimension today. A calmness on the ball and the ability to know where to stand ! Basingstoke are a young and lively side as they proved at our place and on another day with an early goal they might have got at us a bit . But we kept calm and made right decisions most of the time. Hopefully this will stand us in good stead for the run-in . Of course on another day we will look a yard off the pace and hear everyone saying our players too old and too slow

Looks to be good work bringing them in and will be all about how we use our squad in the run-in . Not too concerned whether we finish 5th or 2nd , main thing is to go flying into the play-offs not limping into them. Play-offs normally won by team in form.

Don't know where CheshFan is but you seem obsessed with us. Wouldn't be anything to do with an awful record against us, would it? - 2 wins in 20 odd games since 2000 suggests a lot.

We rolled over last 20 yesterday in much the same way you did for the whole 90 minutes at ours for the Play Off Final - or have you all conveniently forgot that day. ???

Hardly surprising is it CUFCGeneral? You have been our bogey side for nearly 20 years. We don't forget past results, but it's the here & now that counts, so carry on basking in that play off final victory if you want. See you on 2nd April.

Not sure but at the time I was a couple of yards away and just thought Manny was booked because the ball was so far outside the quadrant that even the ref could see it from a distance. As you say it could possibly have been for time wasting.

Mind the GROWING gap!!!

Yes those two places in the table are a gaping chasm between the two clubs. Or look at the two scenarios:

Big budget, stable squad from last year, same management - 5th

Reasonable but mid table budget, 1 player from last year's squad remained at the start, new manager - 7th

Anything in the top 8 for us this year was an achievement, see you on the 2nd April.
