Longshot
I have just listened to the Friday evening sports programme on Radio Berkshire. The presenter who I hasten to add is not one of the usual 2 stated the "Slough Town have a local derby tomorrow against Kings Langley". I can see where the confusion has come from with the Langley connection but people working on radio should not be making a simple error like that. I bet the fans travelling away tomorrow wish the match was being played in Langley. (Home in time for tea).
GlenSTFC
Well actually they are in this league, who’s closer aside from possibly Chesham?
David Carpenter
As a matter of frivolity the distance to the grounds from my abode are as shown from directions on my maps. I have adjusted by +/- 2miles as appropriate to give the figures in brackets from Arbour Park. Chesham Utd 15.9 (13.9) Kings Langley 25.7 (23.7) Farnborough 29.2 (31.2) So given the overall scope of the journeys in the Southern Premier and given that Farnborough has previously been described as a local derby then it seems reasonable to similarly label the Kings Langley game. Don't think it had anything to do with Langley.
GlenSTFC
But how do you define a local derby... is it just on distance? I’d say previous history/matches between the clubs certainly is part of it.
bluerebel
Going by AA autoroute the mileage from Arbour Park is more for KL than Chesham but the travelling time is the same for both because for KL there is more motorway. Kings Langley Mileage 21 Travel time 30 mins Chesham 15 30 mins Farnborough 26 40 mins Another interesting fact. Slough has the highest population in the league at 149,890 and KL the least at 5,215 but based on gates percentage to population KL has a much higher %
