Is it my imagination or does Annie Lennox seem to get nominated EVERY SINGLE FCKING YEAR for Best British female act? She's [****!!****]!

Missy Elliot should get Best international female

Best international group: Outkast or Kings of Leon

Best Britsih dance: Basement Jaxx or Lemon Jelly

Best British Urnan: Dizee Rascal

Best British Rock: Muse

They're the only ones worth commenting on!

Yes, Will Young probably will win, but that's because the people at the Brits are too scared to take the risk of giving it to someone like Dizee Rascal or Badly Drawn Boy. He's a safe choice and that's what they're after. I bet Dido and the Darkness will get loads too.

As for the Best British Urban category- dear god! the only one worth anything is Dizee Rascal, although I've not heard any of Amy Winehouses' stuff. This catergory is so coporate I can smell the Old Spice from here.

Let me just see if I've got this right .... 2003 .... maybe 200 singles released every week in every single genre ...... that's a good 10,000 singles ....... Gareth Gates and the [****!!****] Kumars ...... a [***!!***] cover version of a song that wasn't exactly brilliant the first time round or in any of it's many covers ...... by a spiky haired twat who won a game show ..... with a bunch of quite unfunny people as a rule ....... IT'S A POXY NOVELTY RECORD a la Mr Blobby, Bob the Builder etc

Duran Duran - Outstanding Contribution. And deservedly so.

Written off in the '80s as merely a 'pop' band, their music is being heard now in a different light, and both MTV and Q have also paid similar respect to them. I challenge anyone to listen to their Decade best of.. album, and not find themselves going, "oh yeah, they were fking good, actually!"

As for the quality of the nominations, it is fairly dire. Presumably they nominate this trash so that they can sell shedloads of "Brits 2004" Double-CD's to a load of pre-pubescent kids and Claire, who already own the tracks about 8 times over.

just think they are vastly overated

the boy band of their day, admittedly that does do them a bit of an injustice compared to the utter tripe that is served up on the mogadon masses of today

outstanding contirbution???

to what emi’s, bank balance

other bands who have shaped music popular or otherwise who are more deserving of this "award"

..new order

...depeche mode

....kraftwerk

...talk talk

...visage

....abc

...gary numan

to name but a few

i mean like how often to you hear DD name checked as an influence for creating innovative and creative music

as i said le Bon is tone deaf, will he sing “live”

Would agree that New Order, DM, Gary Numan and Kraftwerk should be recognised - some probably already have been.

Duran are being given an Outstanding Contribution Award, JK. Not and award for "influencing innovative and creative music". Saying that, I've heard alot of people name-checking JT as an innovative and influential bass player.

Disagree about Le Bon being tone deaf. Public perception of him wasn't helped that the sound was playing up at Live Aid and he got slated, but (at the risk of sounding like Claire) I have seen them live on four occasions, and not once did I wince at a sharp or flat note.

But again, the award is not for "best male vocal", is it?

nah he is tone deaf

cant hit those high notes, as witnessed at many award ceremonies... will shall see...

as i say outstanding contribution to what???

by association "innovative and creative music" would be a contibution.

"best male vocal " maybe it would be a start

;-)
