Enfield v Merstham

BWC and George have been playing for Chalfont as they don’t get selected for the squad by AL. Frustrating for young players when they want to play and get dropped. Especially when high paid players get selected and don’t produce. BWC isn’t even on the player list on the website. That must make him really feel part of it! I hope they give the youngsters a chance like other teams or they’ll be going to other clubs and where will enfields future lie? The young players need game time to keep match fit so have to play elsewhere.

In all honesty I am not against anyone/anything.  Thomas tries......Liam is a blast from the past who is obviously putting in all he can and is very experienced.

What does surprise me is this..........we have youth galore at the club.......or more recently did have.    As has just been said.......I was mightly impressed by BWC in his short time on the pitch against Dulwich Hamlet.  So on that basis, was his contribution, workrate, effort, closing down lost causes and then a quality finish.......not worth more than he's been given.    I thought Harley came along with some pedigree, however he hasn't been seen for months(I know he's been injured) so now we seem to be a club who are getting players in who aren't "ready"........or it would appear that way and then offloading them to give them exprience elsewhere.    The Bostik league is full of experienced players however I would imagine that apart from Green and Blake we are crying out for a bit more pace to add to our attack.......this is not having a pop...it's merely an observation.    Here's hoping to improvements however they may come in the 2nd half of the season.    Castorman, I think alot comes from "frustration"....do we want Enfield Town to fail......of course not, surely we all want to string some results together and perform as well as we can each game.........from the top of the club right down to the paying fan.

I'm with you djwilf ... I have nothing against Liam whatsoever but I just can't see the point of playing someone who is not the future of the club.... I think everyone on here would lay off the manager more if he gave younger quicker players a chance... we have half a season now to prepare us for next season ... still think it's s job well done to now but come on Andy think of the future mate....

Wow .. what a long thread! Still, shows we have a passionate fan base!

I listened on the radio and watched the highlights and I think the comments above capture that it wasnt a good enough performance

In defence of Andy -

- he is stating it isnt good enough in his open and honest interviews

- he is bringing in new players to try to get the mix right

- players brought in at the start have been moved along eg Drew, Bartley

- I think there is a nucleus of some good players here

and without sounding like a broken record squad from scratch, best ever FAC run, etc.

Andy deserves our full support this season.

There should be no mention of him leaving the club now, and I do feel he sometimes gets a hard time on here - e.g. one minute he is not approachable, then when he opens up and says the league was a surprise we all get on his back about it - I think he has been very open in his time at the club

Same with Tayshan - I would love to see him back - yes he has been around the block a bit, but is still v young - his twitter video summary of his skills shows what he is capable of. However we employ Andy to make those decisions so whilst we can voice our views - and I have done many times over Jey and Vilcu - the decision rests with him.

Dont get the negativity about Liam above- he trained with us for a number of weeks to re-sign, is Enfield through and through - and still has a role to play at this level. 3 goals in 3, proven goalscorer, etc.

On saying that, all is clearly not well, and as a supporters owned club we are entitled to ask for answers and updates, none more so than at an AGM.

- I dont get how players come and go eg Calver - not been given a single start at a time when performances have not been good, and now released?

- The youngsters as above not getting game time, yet others have appeared undroppable

- The team style of play is not good enough overall - think I can say that after 16 games I have been to this season

- Subs don't tend to be effective or are too late

- If players arent doing what they have been told there must be repercussions

Here's hoping for a good performance tonight!

Up the town

I just asked what is the benefit of playing Liam when the need for young quick players and to build for the future is blindingly obvious.... please don't take this as a slur against one of the towns legends... with the play offs or relegation highly unlikely please could members explain what is wrong with that reasoning....

Following on from the very valid points raised previously about our young players getting game time.

I think it is a mistake we do not have a reserve/u21 team anymore, then maybe we could keep all our younger players playing gaining experience.Because if they do not start getting used I fear we will lose some great talent.

I understand the reasons why the emphasis has been put on the u18s and the academy scheme.I just hope once our safety is assured we build for next season.

When there is no match for Town, attention is switched to other teams results in the Bostik (Ryman)Premier Division.

Having played Merstham recently at the QE2, when we blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2, it was interesting to see how they fared against Dulwich Hamlet at Champion Hill this afternoon. Well, surprise, surprise, Merstham came back from a goal down, to win the match 1-2, with Charlie Penny scoring twice for the visitors.

Not a result many people would have predicted! Apart from Merstham being good comeback specialists, or perhaps Hamlet having an off-day, maybe (just maybe) we are not quite as bad as some people would have us believe. Faith is a wonderful thing!
