Hereford Game

You are doing a good job of lowering you standards to those few idiots that follow Hereford, you sound a very bitter individual..... its a game of football.... not a matter of life and death. Did you come to E.S. ? we are a family club and we have the infrastructure in place to handle larger than average amount of support at this level..... I wont throw any insults your way, I grew up years ago (my wife is also from Reading) so I will let you continue throwing your toys out of your pram. As said previously, you were unlucky, we were very fortunate and I wish Slough all the best for the remainder of the season.

By the way , we are an English club in an English league.... and we are not racist, so allow people from any country to support our team (maybe you should encourage it at your club, hence increase your crowd/finances), Its a shame that you could not understand the chants....possibly because you were to busy cheering on your own team, or need your ears syringing.

SB, with pictures and video evidence of at least a couple of the mindless idiots, especially the loony in the bobble hat, just wondered (providing that they are not already known/banned) if Hereford are going to do anything to try to identify these yobs.

Appreciate it's only a minority and you seem to have it under control at home games but unfortunately it still seems to be out of control at away games and will continue to tarnish the reputation of Hereford and the vast majority of well behaved Hereford supporters.

Why is sittingbull getting bashed for the support of Hereford? It isn't his fault that some of their fans are fools, doesn't every club?

Thought we were better than this.

Craig, I don't think anyone is having a go at Sittingbull who seems to be a well behaved decent supporter of Hereford.

When people are saying things like 'you and your' they are meaning it as Hereford not SB.

Craig, it is not Sittingbull personally, as he probably is one of the 99.5% of Hereford fans who are just like us and want to go to a game and enjoy it as a sporting sceptical in a lawful way.

It’s Hereford as a club, they were the ones selling the tickets, and it’s them as a club that have a duty to control their fans.  This is a known problem to Hereford and they have not got it under control.

I would guess that of the average 2,400 that Hereford get, there is probably only 12 (a random number to illustrate how few can be a problem and to make the maths simple) who are trouble and that is only 0.5% of the total gate.

As clubs get bigger they attract more nutters and it is harder to control.

So applying the same logic as above, we probably have 3 nutters – but if you know who they are it can be controlled – reason why the Rochdale game was all ticket.

The issue of attracting nutters is a concern of mine that our successes will risk attracting the undesirables and ruin the family friendly structure the club has been so careful to promote.

Hereford as a club have a choice – clear out the nutters and be seen as a member of the non-league family, or chose to think of this level of football as tin-pot and allow the scum to tarnish Hereford and be the pariahs of non-league football.

Morning everyone.

So I have taken time over the weekend to digest what happened on Saturday and wanted to make a few points.

I am glad 1 or 2 people have picked up on the negativity in my interview and challenged a few things I said, particularly the comment about the league title being lost. It's good that the majority on here don't agree with that comment and still have faith in the side to still challenge for the top spot. I do of course also understand those with a slightly less positive view given our recent lapses.

I am sure you can appreciate the timing of this interview was not great for me and a couple of my comments were simply made in anger. Myself and Bakes had just come out of the changing room and feelings were running extremely high. We were angry at the fact we had thrown away 2 points against a promotion rival and of course it wasn't the first time in the past month or so which made this even harder to take. We always try to make ourselves available for comment and the FC Video guy needed to get away so I agreed to speak to him straight away.

I stand by most of what I said but have to reassure you that as a changing room, both players and management, we have certainly not given up on the title and we absolutely have the belief that we are capable of going on a winning run of 6, 7, 8, 9 games.....just as we have done before in this league. If we can build some momentum and do this then there is every chance we can put ourselves in a great position to challenge for the title. However it's clear that if we continue to throw away points from winning positions then we have no chance of doing so but we fully expect the players to learn from this and eradicate these errors and of course we hope that can start at St Ives this weekend.

Putting aside the late goals for a moment, we have to take some real positives from Saturday. We were playing everybody's 'champions elect', a side unbeaten in 50 away league games over 2 and a half seasons, a side with huge finances due to their large following....and for the second time this season we were better than them. I still don't think we were at our best, we have seen us play better, yet we controlled the game and restricted them to virtually no chances. If you listen to Peter Beadle's interview their management team went in to injury time knowing they were beaten. We have to take confidence from this as it shows we shouldn't fear any side in this league.

Just a final comment from me is that Bakes and I were extremely proud to reach 250 games in charge on Saturday and we remain as determined to take the club forward as we have ever been. We believe this is by far the best squad that we have ever assembled and would just encourage everyone to stay positive and play your part in helping us with our aim this season which is to get promoted to the Conference South.

Apologies for the length of this post. Trust me I could have gone on even longer but will leave it at that and move on! Hope to see a good number of you at St Ives on Saturday cheering on the lads.

Jon, to come on here and say all that is very honest and open of you.  Walking away from the ground on Saturday I was mad as hell, and the last thing I would have wanted was to be interviewed about it, so for you to still go ahead speaks volumes about your (and Neil's) integrity and commitment.

We can't allow 5 or so minutes of football define our season from now on in.

However bad we all felt on Saturday it was probably not as bad as Merthyr fans felt after the 5-4, or even Gainsborough fans felt for that matter.

We are still in it.

Must admit I was surprised with Jon’s interview and I was about to hand him my gun or rope! But fully understandable and we were all feeling the same (aside from Kirk who was probably smug saying I told you so...). With the next 5 matches against teams mid table or below it’s certainly a great opportunity to get on a winning run although I know some of the pitches will be a nightmare but fully expect the players and fans to be 100% up for the challenge.

Jon -100% behind you ,Neil and the team and will be rooting for you at St.Ives on Saturday. Probably didn't help doing that interview under those circumstances and after your overnight trip from Oz. Don's post reflects what you said regarding the recent late loss of points. Equally of course a very late equaliser against Stratford gained us a point.

Some results in chronological order:

Redditch 0 Slough 4

Farnborough 5 Kings Lynn 2

Redditch 7 Farnborough 1

Bit of an hotpotch! Rebels can still win the League - big effort required from everyone - COYR!!

I said before the game that it would be the reaction to the result not the result itself that would determine our season. Now that is true in spades !

Bizarrely if we had lost 3-0 I don't think we would have felt so bad ! It would have been all,' only one game ' , ' they are favourites ' ' plenty of points to play for '

But if you stay unbeaten for a while , it is amazing what happens . Look at Weymouth. When we beat them it was 6 defeats in 19 , they looked out of the running for the title and might even struggle for the play-offs . Then 8 games unbeaten , only just behind Kettering and Kings Lynn on points now they have put themselves right back in the mix.

Unders, while it probably wasn't the best time to be interviewed, I found your response to the Hereford game  refreshing, actually.

There is always a time for tact and diplomacy but I thought you were right to let off some steam and vent your frustrations at how the game had panned out, as that to me shows you care about what you and Bakes are trying to achieve, and that you wear your heart on your sleeve.

It was good that you didn't use the standard manager spiel, by offering excuses and a stilted, watered down version of what had occured in the game.

I for one applaud your forthrightness.Keep up the good work and keep on being you.
