Hereford Game

We usually fall around laughing when Spencer Day talks about "small margins" but today I understood. If one of those late Hereford goals had been saved on the line what a different forum we would have tonight We would be celebrating a double over Hereford we would be the leagues highest scorers we would have ended a 50 game unbeaten away run and most importantly we would jointly with Hereford be the teams with the lowest points lost all season If just one goal hadn't gone in! And yet some talk as if our season is over ! We are still in a very strong position and have a number of six pointers with teams in the top group to play Only one of the six teams above Slough at kick off today won their game the other five all lost points so still all to play for Neil/Jon have some tweaking to do and they know it but I'm not joining the white flag wavers yet!!

Ok guys I realise that there was a little too much emotion in my last post.

But the point I was trying to make was that it'll take one almighty effort to win the league from this position, our current form is poor and the battle for the playoffs is now well and truly on.

I really don't see what's so pathetic about saying that.

Nathan, you're right that it will take one almighty effort from us to win the league but it's still doable.

Don't agree that our current form is poor. We've just outplayed the red hot title favourites and I think now we've got another excellent signing and goal scorer in Ben Harris on board and don't forget that man Lenchy is back so I think we can push on from here and give it a real go.

Where is this 10 men thing coming from, did I miss something. For me I didn't see any leadership on the pitch after that first goal went in but maybe I was looking elsewhere, but thought we were 'too nice' would have liked to see someone scream and shout on the pitch.

On a side note I would like to thank all the volunteers who worked tirelessly getting this game on.

What a fantastic game. Not the result I wanted but it was a brilliant example of what football is all about. I thought we were superb at 0-0 up until the refs injury . Really contained a strong and physically massive Hereford side. After the break I thought we took our chance fantastically and we're well worth a lead at half time. Then to come out and go 2 up with george wells ( my mom by miles) amazing cross field ball we had it in the palm of our hands . We made Hereford look ordinary and they never really threatened us . If I was a betting man 3-0 looked more likely than 2-1 .

Then one , two three chances to clear a ball not taken and bamm its 2-1 . At that point I knew they would get an equaliser my only hope was that it would come so late we would at least get a point .

If sport is 75% mental you could see the evidence of that on the last 5 today . A team who keep conceding late goals were trying to defend against a side who just will not lose away ! There was only ever going to be a late goal for them!

Sadly it's what separates the great from the merely good . Hereford will march on and win this league by a country mile because they believe . We will need to toughen up to make the play offs.

I thought we were excellent and looking like we would win more impressively until three key players who were having blinders picked up injuries and had to go off.

Cut out the silly schoolboy errors and Hereford wouldn't have got a look in and we'd have taken all three points.

I'm still shellshocked.

Being positive Slough were by far the better team over 90 minutes and deserved to be 2-0 up.

Never thought I'd be agreeing with the Hereford fans but when they sang 'two nil and we fu**ed it up'  you have to concur !

We threw it away in what could have been a famous victory.

I thought we were silly to take off Dobbo and bring on Nathan Smart,as it was an unnecessary change to our team who had looked in control mode up to that point. No blame is attached to Nathan Smart in this regard.

Sorry Bakes and Unders, you both are not deserving of any criticism, and it doesn't need me to rub salt in the wound but it was the catalyst to them pulling two goals back.

Overall, our team did us proud.Thought Alan Inns had his best game in a Slough shirt and was my man of the match but nearly all the Slough players in our team deserved praise for such a great effort.

Inns, Wells, B.Harris and Flood stood out today to me.

Simon Dunn needs a mention, as though he got injured first half, I thought he was looking sharp and it was unfortunate to lose him.

The best stroke of luck we had, was the original referee getting injured ! ha ha ! Not wishing him ill but the linesman come referee of the 2nd half was a big improvement to the first and seemed a lot fairer.

I don't know if Brad Wadkins is still feeling his injury but I was disappointed with his input today. We needed a gut busting, chase every ball substitute appearance but we got a rather laboured half hearted effort which seems out of character of him. Just wondered if he is happy at our club,as it can take time to settle from a rival team to another.

Having watched Brad play for Aylesbury and Chesham in numerous games, I know what an asset he can be both as a forward and as a midfielder, so I just hope it is nothing to worry about with him.

Why do we back off teams and go unnaturally defensive when we get a one nil or two nil cushion?

To me attack is the best form of defence. Attacking wise we ran out of ideas late on.

All in all, though, we can count ourselves bloody unlucky not to have won that game today.

Agree with most of what you say 3spirit.

The substitutions were enforced so no blame can be attached there.

Agree Dunny looked to be on fire when he had to go off from what looked like from distance a poor challenge going unpunished from a poor Ref.

Expected reaction on the forum but everyone needs to take a moment.

I hoped for a win and it looked likely until late in injury time.

It's unfair to blame substitutions or becoming more defensive as it happens when teams tire towards the end and opponents throw more forward.

Yes it's disappointing that we keep conceding late and it feels like we are dropping points but lets try to stay positive.

We have lots to be happy about and if these last few games our our only blip we still can finish the season strong and challenge for promotion.

Lets get behind the club.

I'm going to see if spencers interview is online to cheer me up.

We go again saturday

Number 8 got injured about 2/3 minutes before the end of normal time and went straight and sat on the bench when they had no subs left. May have been missed by most as we had a player down injured at the same time on the opposite side of the pitch if I remember rightly.

Ok cold light of day several hours ( and drinks later ) .

Great point against top side , Kettering lost ( thanks Callum ) we and Hereford are still most difficult to beat .

If we can get our heads straight and stop conceding late goals I think we are favourites for 2nd place,

As I said before the game , today's result is just one game . If we go to St Ives and win bloody ugly I will be very happy with 4 points from these two games .

Gashimoto :

Like every body else I am still gutted and disappointed with the end result.

Every game those around me always say Steve what's the score today I always say it.s Slough to win and today's performance deserved that and the three points but to get the result you deserve you have to play to the final whistle but slipped at the final hurdle.

But like you I am still positive confident and optimistic in the team going forward.

I suppose it's logistics health and safety in these big games but being the home side why do we give the opposition supporters St Joe's end where more noise is generated we know that's our favorite end and the team would of had the 12th man and benefited from it and could of got the third goal required.

Some interesting pictures from Gary showing that the Kettering fans lived up to their reputation of getting onto the pitch and looking for trouble and setting off pyrotechnics.

Clear pictures of who was on the pitch to allow Hereford and the league to take action.

Validates Sloughs decision to segregate, as it is clear to see that there were no Slough fans involved and that Hereford do have a bunch of scum fans amongst them - that is not all Hereford fans, just enough to give them a justified reputation.

I don’t think I have seen such a disappointed, annoyed and angry(?) Jon Underwood in the four and a half years he has been at the Club (in the post match interview).

And rightly so, not only did we throw away two points yesterday by conceding very late goals, very late goals have also been conceded against Banbury, Hendon, Rochdale, Bishops Stortford and Chesham in the last two months, with varying implications.

It is something that needs to be addressed, and I am convinced from the post match interview and because of the quality of both Jon and Neil that a strategy/plan will be developed to ensure this current flaw will be eradicated.

On a positive note, the result yesterday changed very little in terms of our title credentials..... Kettering, Tiverton and Hitchin lost, and Weymouth drew, so we only lost ground on Kings Lynn. And a run of four or five league wins in the remainder of this month (which we are more than capable) would completely change the look of the table.

Walking out of the ground I over heard Slough and Hereford Supporter talking that some were carted of to the Nick the Hereford Supporter was with not happy with there behaviour.

At half time, when I went to sit in front of them, I started to speak to a few where I sat, about the number of children and young families that had come, and how it was nice to see that.

Then as the final whistle got closer it got more and more intimidating, with the hate being hurled around by a very minor few, which ended up with the pitch invasion and smoke bombs.

I feel really sorry for the kids that were caught in the middle of it all, they must have been scared to death.

All because of a mindless, hate lead, few.

The "No-Mans Land" set up by the usual turnstile was a very good idea (about the right size) and worked really well, as all those mindless few could do was hurl abuse and nothing else.

Also, the stewarding was done in a calm manner.

So congratulations for those stewarding and in setting up the calm areas

Swings and roundabouts we have scored late goals against Merthyr Hendon and Stratford.

Guest route104

Thought the managers game plan worked very well for 93 minutes it was only sloppy defending around the box that let us down in the end, we never gave Hereford any time on the ball Jack had very little to do, to be honest for most of the game.                                                                                         Still everything to play for we move onto the next game but we have to be a lot more ruthless with teams when we get in front, also thought the starting ref.was awful
