Curtis
Apparently there is a Conference League rule every club has to sign up to that stipulates if a club wins promotion to the Football League but does not get promoted because they can’t comply with the Football Leagues rules then they will be relegated to the Conference North or South. At present, Sutton, Bromley and Maidstone could possibly win promotion from the Conference National, but unless they ripped up their artificial pitches and replaced them with grass then they could be relegated. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42425377
GlenSTFC
What a stupid rule, why not do the sensible thing and just not promote them!

Reading Rebel
As the write up states, with a lot of league 1 and 2 clubs awash with debt, a 3G pitch is the common sense option for a lot of these clubs. I would agree that to allow a club with a 3G pitch into the football league the surface would have to be of a top rated standard. As for the Ebbsfleet vice chairman saying that they encourage a more direct and less attractive style of play is talking nonsense.
Bernie Gogan
We'd better change our style of play then! Went to Maidenhead yesterday (after watching our game) and the style of play was pretty poor on a grass pitch. 1200+ punters didn't seem too bothered by the standard of football so maybe Mr. Ebbsfleet has a point. Irishadrian
Its about status That's why promotion is so important to us That was Maidenhead's first home league victory for 3 months and yet 1260 braved the weather to see it
maidenheadrebel
I would not watch poor football week in and week out just for status. For years would not watch Maidenhead for that very reason.
Irishadrian
Maidenhead rebel I do agree with you re the quality of the football My comment was really about the attendance When we are playing at the next level I'm sure our average attendances will see a significant increase
GlenSTFC
Not so sure about that Irish, yes if we’re top 5 I’d expect the average to be in the 700’s, but if we’re mid table or below we could see no rise or even a decrease. The teams in the league above bar 4-5 won’t bring significantly more than what we see now and unless we’re winning not sure our support would grow even in a higher league. Curtis
Not so sure about that Irish, yes if we’re top 5 I’d expect the average to be in the 700’s, but if we’re mid table or below we could see no rise or even a decrease. The two clubs promoted last season from our league have seen increases in attendance of 46% & 30%. http://www.thelinnets.co.uk/turnstile.php?s=2016 Our average attendances will increase to well over 700 after our next home match, and will probably average 700 across all our league matches this season. And if promoted I think we could expect at least a 20% increase next season taking us to around an 850 average.
GlenSTFC
Yes we may well have a 700 average if we gain promotion this season, but I still think we’d need to be towards the top of the Conference South to maintain that average. Be ecstatic to be proved wrong this is just my thinking.
REBEL MATTERS
Interesting debate. Back in late 80s and more so early 90s when we first got to the Conference, we averaged 900, with the exception of the big games (Wycombe, Yeovil, Colchester, Barnet league games). The support for the club is there (look at fans come out of the woodwork when we played H&Y first game at Arbour, Rochdale recently), but the fact remains, a lot of our fans have premiership / championship sides they follow first, Slough second when their team are not playing. I do know of Slough ST holders who used to watch Premier League side week in week out, but now Slough home and away (down to price and do believe new stadium in Slough is a big factor I would be worried if we didn't have the interest when the big games came along. Like with any club, the better you're doing, the more attractive it is to come and watch play. I do believe that should Slough get to higher leagues, the interest will be there (especially with top professional football pricing fans out). Irishadrian
Looking at the chart Curtis supplied Maidenheads average gate in their first season since promotion is up 50 % Success attracts support without doubt imo
Curtis
I think it's their first ever season in the Conference National and season ticket pricing proved an enormous success:- Adults £150 Concessions £110 Under 20's £80 They must be one of the cheapest in their league. GlenSTFC
I wonder if our club has hold of contact information for all (Slough) tickets sold for the Rochdale match? Could be key in future marketing opportunities to promote the clubs’ upcoming matches and news. Also hopeful that once the club takes over the running of the food and beverage operations (I guess this will be in place for the start of next season) this will lead to increased revenue plus maybe additional support if all goes well. Irishadrian
Curtis Yes agreed Intelligent balanced pricing can usually increase attendances and if not so generous the following season a good league position should retain most of them. GlenSTFC
Missed opportunity in my view although I guess time was against the club and maybe there wasn’t sufficient time to organise this.
