v Stratford Town

The only thing we need to be on our guard for tomorrow is that Stratford are the filthiest team we are likely to face this season 69 yellows 5 reds in all games so far and known not just for physical acts but for wind up verbals So long as we can rise above this I expect the 3 points

Disappointing today although maybe a good point in the end. For all our pressure we created very little in the way of clear cut chances. I think we must have had 20 or more corners so it was good to see one come off at the death. Stratford defended very well though and probably had the best chances in the game. The team are in a bit of a slump at the minute so as fans we have to do our bit and get behind the lads as best we can.

Very disappointing result and certainly 2 points dropped and with the others above all winning it makes the next 2 must wins if we want to stay in contention for 1st place. Yes we had the majority of possession but we didn’t create as much as our play deserved. The officials and opposition certainly didn’t help our cause but you can’t use that as an excuse. Not sure why it’s not clicking for us at the moment but we need to get back into our first half of the season form before we find ourselves slipping far too behind.

Agree, Stuntman Mark, frustrating game today. No lack of effort from our lads but struggled to carve out many clearcut chances.

Brad Wadkins had one of the best chances when through on goal but inexplicably decided to square the ball to another player rather than shoot. I'll put that down to rust. Didn't really happen for Brad today, with him and Manny both struggling to influence the match.

The service from midfield wasn't at it's the best either. To me, Matt Lench was a big miss today.

Simon Dunn didn't have a good game IMO but as usual Nathan Webb was the one who made way. I thought Nathan was beginning to get into the game when we subbed him. Must have been a tight call who we took off, as neither of them had hit the heights they can.

First half possession wise Slough dominated but Stratford probably had the best chance to score.

Second half we huffed and puffed and over rushed play but couldn't find a way through a crowded Stafford penalty area until Alan Inns popped up with his unlikely late equalizer.

You have to think it's two points dropped against a largely ordinary Stratford team.

Definitely a deserved point but not enough creativity and adventure to trouble the opposition. Will need to be better against Farnborough.

Agree definitely 2 points dropped, very frustrating result as could’ve easily been out of sight at half time. Don’t think I’ve ever seen us have so many corners in one half! The save from their keeper in the second half summed up our luck at the moment.

Disagree that Dunn didn’t have a good game thought him and Webb were very good particularly in the first half. Shame Webb had to go off. Thought Sean Fraser was excellent on his 250th game.

Got to try and get another run together starting Boxing Day against an inconsistent Farnborough side.

Welcome to the forum Rebel_67.

Just seen the Bakes post match interview and he was understandably gutted about the result. As he said the players haven't turned into bad ones overnight but there's no doubt that the exuberance and belief in themselves has dropped down a notch, to how they were playing before the Rochdale game.

Injuries certainly haven't helped but for me a little bit of complacency has set in. I feel a fresh face or two is needed and considering the money we've earned from our FA Cup exploits, we ought to be able to afford a signing or two.

I do feel, however, that in today's game we all were asking a lot, for everything to click into place, when Slough had virtually two new starters in Alan Inns and Brad Wadkins, and that our midfield was unusually shaped with what seemed like three central midfielders with Dunny being to the left and one winger, that of Wazza. Noticeable also that Manny Williams looked as he was sitting deep behind Brad Wadkins and at times too far apart from Brad but despite all this we still dominated the distinctly average Stratford but were not good enough to break them down and get the win that was desperately needed. Trouble is the clinical finishing from earlier in the season is currently in short supply.

On another day with the same personel and better cohesion/understanding of each others positions, would have stuffed them.

I would normally feel disappointed, frustrated or annoyed after a result like today..... but unfortunately I don’t.

It didn’t look like we started with our strongest eleven, and I could completely understand that earlier in the season when confidence was high and we were scoring at will...... but we have been struggling for form for a while now and confidence doesn’t seem to be high, and considering everything we probably got what we deserved today.

I will probably be told by somebody now that our two top goal scorers started on the bench because they are carrying injuries!!

Yes worrying loss of confidence affecting most of the Squad The Stratford manager in his post match interview is quite clear that had we taken first half chances we would have been out of sight by half time Clearly pleased to have come away with a point Neil in his post match comments stresses the importance of putting a winning run together and there is some light at the end of the tunnel in that regard We do have a couple of potentially difficult games coming up but after the home game with Hereford we have a run of 7 games all in January where the current positions of the opponents are 14th 15th 16th 18th. 20th 21st and 22nd We should be able to put a mini run together from the tail end of the table.

Dobbo was on the bench because he has been on holiday all week, missing Tuesday and Thursday, and while he was away the midfield 4 performed well on Tuesday and deserved to keep their places and we wanted continuity.

Floody has played an awful lot of football in the past month or so and by his own admission was feeling jaded. The goals had not been going in for him recently and Brad had scored in his 2 games coming off the bench so it was a no-brainer in our eyes to freshen things up and bring him in.

For whatever reason the goals have dried up for us and this can happen in football but we need everyone to stay positive and I’ve no doubt we will come up with the answers.

Hi Jon,

We must have had a dozen corners in the first half, and neither of our specialist corner takers on the pitch..... yes a lot of the corners were delivered roughly in the areas they were supposed to be put, but none were on the money. And when we did score late on, it was from a corner.

I'm surprised to hear that Floody judges himself by whether goals are going in for him, he has got to be the most unselfish striker I think I have ever seen, and I am pretty certain if you have the statistics that he has more assists than goals this season (that is not a criticism of him, just a fact that his game is about more than scoring goals).
