Bishops Stortford 9/12

Read an interesting article in "The Observer" yesterday by a referee recounting the abuse he has encountered

over the years and the large number of referees now leaving the game as a result of this. Whatever your views of a referees/officials performance this does not justify the language used in one particular post on this

thread which was in my opinion totally unacceptable. I was sitting at the top of the West Stand when Nathan

Smart fouled the BS forward and my immediate reaction was that it would be a red card - an opinion which the

refers agreed with. I agree with Radders etc.regarding the reaction to the overall performance. COYR!

Dave what post are you talking about? Just re read thread and none with language. Unless it’s been deleted. Fair enough you thought it was a red but he made a lot of mistakes that game and no it wasn’t the reason we lost before anyone jumps in. He wasn’t a good ref so if he gives it up then I don’t think anyone will feel a loss there.

The one describing the referee as "a complete moronic urangootang". The Observer article I referred to was by another referee. We can all have differing opinions and I agree that the referee should have taken some action over the touchline incident. However my major concern is that we rely on officials for the game to run. Some may make poor decisions but the abuse which is often directed at them is in my opinion totally out of

proportion.

I don't have no halo but I also don't think the sort of comment I have referred to belongs to football either. Disagree with the referee by all means, be critical but to resort to the language expressed is in my opinion not acceptable and is indeed over the top. It is nothing to do with halos but we are losing officials at an

alarming rate. The orang-utan is in any case a highly intelligent animal probably better at spelling its name than I am!

David

Not sure what an urangootang is, but if you are going to quote me get it right - it was "a completely moronic orangutan".

And if you wanted my true opinion of his performance and how he influenced the game - well that would be unpublishable on here.

You do though miss out my praise for the ref from the Rochdale game, but why let that get in the way of your moan.

Firstly I made a light hearted comment about my spelling of orang-utan in my latest post, Secondly I did

notice and agree with your praise for the Rochdale referee. I agree that the referee for the Storford game wasn't the best but I still think your language was unnecessary even if you state it could have been worse still. If some one disagreed with your actions would you like to be addressed in the manner that you laid down in

your post?

So should we shut the forum down as someone may be offended by the most innocent of comments?

I suspect that Matthew Russell hears language 10 times more spicy on the pitch than the comment “completely moronic orangutan”, so should the whole game be played in total silence, and as for chanting, that must be banned immediately!

Or is this just another case of political correctness gone mad?

I think this is getting out of hand.

David makes a fair point about referees and linesmen leaving the game because they are victims of over the top abuse at football matches but I think he has mudded the waters by picking up on your innocuous but slightly silly comment.

After all, Rebel1965, you only said it on a football forum and it is hardly ' crime of the century' to take the mickey out of inept refereeing.

So my advice to both of you on this occasion, is to act like gentlemen and agree to disagree on this matter.
