Bishops Stortford 9/12

Well Matthew Russell, didn't you make a right hash of that!

If you consider the vast gulf in competency between the ref in the Cup game on Monday and Matthew “I am a completely moronic orangutan” Russell you get to see how refs can influence a game and make a complete mockery of the occasion.

I have never seen a ref get so many simple decisions wrong and fail to protect players leaving us whit a string of injuries which were preventable, if he had got a grip of the game.

Having said that Bishops Stortford were not a dirty team, but he allowed things to get out of hand and then when he did react it was for the wrong things.

Matthew Russell is appearing as the village idiot in a panto near you – he will be playing himself.

Matthew Russell was one particular village idiot on show today, backed up by a handful of our 'fans' who, presumably because we had a good cup run, believe we now have a god given right to win any football match just by walking onto the pitch. And who don't understand that if a player is injured they probably won't play whilst they're injured. And who think if we don't score every time we cross the halfway line we are a disgrace to the good name of football. I'm glad that our managers don't stand with us behind the goal as you'd think we are 10 adrift at the bottom of the table and staring relegation in the face. Get a grip people and realise we may lose the occasional game. At least we didn't get annihilated 5-2 by farnborough who had spencer day's auntie beryl in goal and a dead goat in centre midfield.

One of my issues with the ref was HOW it wasn’t a yellow when their lad wouldn’t give the ball to guy for a throw in and then dramatically threw himself onto the floor like a toddler and got away with it!!

Hope matt lench is ok!! He made such a difference coming on be gutted if he’s out for a while

To date we've had a great season and today we saw a good team have a bad day There haven't been many of them this season.3 points at Top Field must be the aim next and time spent mulling over today's game pointless imo Sh*t happens sometimes We are still right up there one defeat hasn't changed that

Yes the ref and one particular linesman had games to forget but you cannot blame them solely for our defeat.

Our luck was very much in short supply today.Try as we might, things just never went our way.

It wasn't like we played terrible but we were guilty of starting slowly at the start of the first half and worse still, the beginning of the second half, when we really should have been switched on.

I thought Bishops Stortford played to their strengths and were excellent at breaking out of their half at speed with their number 7 and number 11 being particularly adept at finding space in our half.

I think Bishops Stortford and their management deserve some credit for the win.

I was a little surprised by our line up at the start of play, as I thought we would have would have given Josh Jackman and Nathan Webb [as well as Sean Fraser] a run out and rested a couple after Monday's exertions to freshen up the team but funny enough some from the Rochdale match improved as the game worn on although  there were a couple who looked well out of sorts.

I was really pleased with Brad Wadkins contribution today and it made me wonder why he didn't get any minutes against Rochdale.

A bad day at the office it has to said but even more worrying is how we are going to fare against Hitchin and Kings Lynn, with so many players being injured and a few looking jaded.

Have to agree with you Radders, there was certainly some behind the goal yesterday who didn't seem to understand our players situation - with none of the three strikers being fit it was always going to be difficult - one in particularly commenting that "if they don't take off Flood I'm going home" (needless to say he was still there at the final whistle).

I thought we played well in general, being on top with 10 and even 9 men at times, but luck seems to have completely deserted us over the last few games and as a result the confidence (as well as the fitness up front) is taking a knock.  no doubt we can get this back but we just have to get through this bad patch  Being at the far end I couldn't tell if there was definite contact, however there could well have been but it looked like the striker tried to stay on his feet having got past Smart before going over, and the letter of the law says it's a red card.  Hopefully Lenchy isn't too badly injured, it was a crunching block to get the ball behind so hopefully it's just an impact injury rather than anything more serious.

We’re winless in our last 5 games (3 draws, 2 defeats), just hope that’s our bad spell over and we start our comeback at Kings Lynn. It’s almost certain tomorrow nights match will be off which I think is a good thing as it’s gives us vital extra days to regroup, assess injuries and bring in any necessary reinforcements.
