League Tonight 5/12

Neil, we have every right to win this league. This squad should be aiming to be the best in the division, not settling for play offs. I don't believe we should fear any side. We are just as good as any of them.

To win the title is rarely easy but we have the players to do it, if they can all get fit and keep fit.

It's better to have the points than games in hand but it is what it is.There's no reason why we can't claw back into contention.  We've had a brilliant season and we should be rightly proud of what our team has done so far.

We need to believe that we can make something even more special happen come the end of the season.

Positive belief not negative.

The two biggest questions for this side currently, is how well will they handle the winter games and can we cope with important players out with injury?.

At the start of the season the side was thriving because of the competition for places and the varied type of player we could call on. It will do wonders for us,if we can recapture this for the tough, up and coming weather afflicted matches.

If Brad Wadkins, Gav James and Alan Inns are going to miss a lot more games, I can only see it as being inevitable that we will need to dip in to the transfer market, if we mean business for a title shot.

No Stuart, we don't have any right to win the league.... we have a great chance... but no right. Of course we are all aiming to win it, but my whole post was to say that play offs would not be seen as not good enough.... sometimes when you have success people can get a bit greedy, but realise we are not the only people saying we want to win the league, so are Hereford, Kings Lynn, and Kettering, all who currently have bigger average crowds than ourselves, and on that basis are possibly bigger clubs than us.#

The players know what our hopes are for the season, and what has been set out from the get go, and we are doing very well in regards to this, and we will keep pushing to try and realise those hopes.

Neil, we are really grateful for your posts on this forum and the insight it provides - we may not always agree with you 100% (everyone in football has opinions as you know) but this really helps us, as supporters get behind the team - and on the tough days maybe that encouragement can make a tangible difference.

As it happens, here I agree with you completely, our great start and the squad you and Jon have built puts us in the hunt but none of us should be in any doubt about how competitive this league is and how hard other clubs will try to win it. I'm sure we'd all rather go up automatically but would also relish a play off final just as much as we did in 2014.

My 2 main concerns right now are that the players keep their heads up after the cup defeat so they go into the next few matches with confidence (Stortford, Hitchin, Kings Lynn is a challenging set of fixtures) and the injury list - although it is great to see Manny back seemingly recovered if not fully match fit.

3spirit, please tell me that part of the post was satire?

Yes we have a squad capable of winning the league, but so do at least 3 other teams. No team has a right to anything.

Nathan, what I was trying to get at is that we must aim high, not keep thinking we are only good enough for the play offs.

Practically every season you have teams vieing it out to get promotion,so it's nothing new.

No one knows what will happen come the end of the season but this season for the first time in years,we actually have a squad good enough to get promoted. To me it will be a failure of sorts, if we don't achieve promotion but I won't be calling for Bakes and Unders to be sacked,if they don't make it happen ! ha ha !

I think the disappointment of two cup losses has made a few people forget that we are the best performing team in the league since the August kick off No team has lost fewer points or is only losing one game in eight. Those who refer regularly to our injuries forget that on any given match day most teams do not have access to their full squad through either injury or suspension its not just a Slough problem The cup runs have provided the resources to increase the squad if Neil/Jon deem it necessary The long range weather forecasts hint at a severe winter we won't lose any home games but other teams will lose both home and away and its their turn to catch up Reading between the lines of Neils recent post(there are things it wouldn't be diplomatic to say) I'm sure he and Jon believe that they have a squad who can be champions and I believe that's the aim they have tasked the squad with COYR.
