MILDENHALL TOWN 0  HORNCHURCH 6

Hornchurch were without Elliot Styles, suspended, and Sam Mott, injured at Tilbury three days earlier. On the plus side, Brad Warner was back after missing the Tilbury match due to illness, and Leon McKenzie came back into the starting line up after missing one match, after picking up five yellow cards. Without Mott, manager Jim McFarlane acted quickly and signed Simon Bloch Jorgensen from Whitehawk. Bloch had three seasons with Danish club Frem, and also played for Copenhagen clubs B93 and B1908, making a total of 68 appearances in the Danish League. He then played for Bronshoj, before moving to England, and playing for Accrington Stanley and more recently Whitehawk.

Hornchurch started powerfully and went ahead after six minutes, when Brad Warner cut in from the left, and Joe Hood deflected his cross for a corner. Warner took the corner, and home keeper Sam Roach saved twice from Nathan Cooper, who then reacted quickly to fire home the loose ball.

Mildenhall were forced to defend for long periods, but thought they had equalised in the 20th minute as the ball hit the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside.

A minute later Roach did well to tip a Warner shot around the post for a corner.

Mildenhall, playing down the slope, had just one other opportunity, in the 23rd minute, when Gareth Thompson hit a shot from long range high and over the bar. Bloch in goal had little to do, apart from collecting a corner from the right midway through the half, after a Hood shot had been blocked by Jay Porter.

On 33 minutes Hornchurch increased heir lead, when Sean Roberts played the ball out to George Purcell on the right wing, and Purcell sent in a hard curling shot that Roach could only help on its way into the net

A minute into the second half Hornchurch went further ahead. A Purcell shot was blocked and the ball fell to Leon McKenzie, who volleyed hard into the net.

On 50 minutes a long range shot-cum- centre from Sean Roberts bounced high on the edge of the area, and although both Roach and Thomas Debenham attempted to clear, the latter could only help it into the net.

Three minutes later it was five as McKenzie netted his second of the night with a fine header after Purcell had centred from the right wing.

Purcell almost scored a second of his goal but his shot struck the post after McKenzie flicked it on in the 66th minute. Purcell then hit a free kick from ten yards outside the area, and Roach saved well, touching the shot onto the post and out for a corner.

Hornchurch kept pressing forward and with seven minutes left substitute Jed Chouman passed it back to Purcell, who fired a shot, but it was parried by Roach to McKenzie who side footed the ball home to complete his hat-trick on the night.

It was a very noisy coach that left Mildenhall at ten p.m., and again at 10.15 p.m. after it was realised that we had left someone behind at the ground, and we eventually arrived back at the Bridge at midnight.
