bluerebel
Manager Gavin Williams has confirmed this morning that 80% of the players have now left. He hopes to be able to field a competitive team but it will take time. Seems most of the supporters believe the club has spent too much time and money on the business and social side of the club and not enough on the football side. Is this another Gosport situation when we will see some high scores against a weakened side?
GlenSTFC
Blimey that’s 4 players left (no doubt the lowest earners) based on a squad of 20. Their manager needs to find at least 10 players then so they could get some thrashing’s until they can bring in some better players although they’re going to struggle if the budget has been cut that severely. Even if their budget was very healthy at say £5,000 it means it’s now £1,000.
BFR
Clearly heard about this too late to lump on Chesham. Memories of that Cheshunt vs Leyton match £££££££££
GlenSTFC
I suppose we should wait for full details if they’re ever released but it seems total financial mismanagement. Maybe there were expecting a lucrative cup run or much larger crowds, either are bonus and shouldn’t expect or base your budget on!
staines_rebel_Jr
It is something that has been coming it seems, as at the start of the season the council had already raised concerns about their finances. Add to that board members has been leaving at a steady rate throughout the season. Merthyr have a strong and loyal support who have a real connection with the club so I am sure we will see them coming together once more. It will be a tough season for them now but with only one team going down they should be safe. They already have 26 points which is probably enough to avoid relegation already. The question is how many players will sign with Hereford?
3spirit
That's the trouble with being too ambitious. Merthyr have already gone done the pan once. You would have thought the lessons from that debacle, would have been learnt but no, here we go again. This is something I hope Slough as a club and many of our newfound fans take on board. To keep going up the divisions and having success, requires a considerable outlay with no guarantee of anything. Overspending leads only one way and that's into trouble ! Hopefully, our board will 'cut their cloth accordingly' and keep a 'steady ship'.
Reading Rebel
Got to feel for the Merthyr supporters as it seems again like total mis-management from the Chairman and board. How ironic that on the Merthyr web site the club statement reads 'Merthyr Town fc, progress through stability'
SloughFlyer
3spirit - couldnt agree more. With the foundation Steve and the current team off the pitch have built we need to be mindful as a club of the errors of others and make sure not to repeat their problems. The best example i can think of is this - with the FA Cup money current sitting (with the TV money) at over £100k, the way i look at it is, if the rental amounts spoken about earlier in the season are true, is we have paid the rent on the ground for the next 6+ years. The money if managed well can be used for the team etc, but lets look after the right things first. Seems football at the moment think its untouchable and has an endless credit line, but more and more we are seeing this just isnt the case. It'll only take a "big" pro team to go completely to the wall and the whole house of cards could come crashing down. I thought Jon's tweet summed it up about how grateful he was to be managing at a well run club and long may it continue.
Windsor Rebel
We have been through financial issues before and certainly don't want to go back there again.
Sir Rebel1965
Dose that mean that if they go bust and are withdrawn from the league results that the 4-5 win we had will not stand and all the t-shirts that have been sold will be worthless? David Carpenter
If regrettably Merthyr were to fold (and obviously one would hope not) then clearly and obviously just as with Hereford Utd a few seasons ago the points would not stand. However I am not too sure that this would conflate with any celebration of the fantastic comeback at Merthyr this season.
Irishadrian
Rebel1965 Actually those shirts would increase in value since it would become a unique event that could never be repeated lol

staines_rebel_Jr
http://www.merthyrtownfc.co.uk/news/board-statement-1/ Statement from the board who now claim the lack of funds is due to lack of home games since October. Since the start of October they have had 9 games only 3 at home. Overall though they have had 9 home games and 12 away and made £3k from the FA Cup.
