Weymouth game.

As a self confessed part timer and therefore not 'real fan' I'm going to make the most of a rare trip to Arbour Park and comment on the match.

Jon and Neil - You have built a fantastic side. Solid at the back, composure on the ball, confident in individual and collective ability. Certainly among the best Slough Town teams i've seen.

In terms of the match itself, refreshing to see two sides who wanted to play football. Weymouth may think what might have been had Togwell not cleared off the line, or that long range effort crept under the crossbar instead of rattling the woodwork. But I don't think they will have too many complaints about the result.

George Wells as MOM was a decision I agreed with. His work rate and intensity was top drawer, even closing down defenders and the goalkeeper at one point in the second half. His goal set us on the way after an earlier speculative effort that really should have warned Weymouth of what was to come.

The whole team played well, but I would have said Dunne came a close second behind Wells.

A big thanks to Lee Hunter for entertaining my lad before the match for his mascot experience. He was also thrilled to get his photo with Matt Lench.

I'll post another message later regarding the Frame Football collection..... Lots of very generous people there today, stopping in the pouring rain to chip in.

Excellent post for a part-timer BFR   ;)

Very enjoyable game and an excellent 3 points.

I thought Weymouth played very well but on the day some of the football we played was a delight to watch topped off with some clinical finishing.

Very difficult and probably unfair to pick a MOTM but if I had to I'd go for Simon Dunne closely followed by Wellsy and Lenchy.

I've listened to the Weymouth managers after match interview which overall is pretty fair except for a couple of areas.

He's say's that the 3-0 scoreline was not a fair scoreline which is probably correct due to some of the chances they had but omits to say that we also missed a few chances and if both teams had put their chances away the score would have been something like 6-3.

He also mentions about both teams budgets being poles apart, OK he obviously knows what his own teams budget is but how the hell would he know what our player budget is?

If you don't know don't make assumptions on teams budgets after a defeat that you don't know for a fact to be correct.

Thoroughly enjoyable game today and well worth watching through the inclement weather.

I think Weymouth were shell shocked to find themselves 2-0 down at the half time break, when they hadn't played bad.

Second half, though, we were far superior and I agree with Jon, that perhaps we should of scored one or two more.

The confidence flowing through our squad is fantastic to behold. Everyone that plays want to get on the ball. That doesn't happen when teams are struggling.

Agree with BFR that George Wells and Simon Dunn were the stand out's today, that said every Slough player played well.

I thought Simon Dunn was awesome. His movement and link play seemed the catalyst to a lot of our best play.

Not meaning to be negative but for me Simon is at his best when we play opposition that are not overly physical as he is good at exploiting gaps and breaking forward against open passing sides like the Weymouth's of this world. On another day with another ref, he might have have got lucky with a couple of free kicks for fouls against him but today it wasn't to be.

Talking of the ref I thought he had a very good game and kept the game flowing.

Big 3 points gained today, now on to Banbury.

One other thing I thought there was a cracking atmosphere at the ground today. Due to our great attacking football, the crowd seemed much more vocal and loud, to some of the muted quiet games we have had at Arbour Park this season.

Always find it odd when people start talking about budgets. As Merthyr have so recently demonstrated it's not the size of your budget that counts but it's realistic stability.

We may well have one of the biggest budgets in this league and so we should as we are one of the best supported sides ( like Weymouth actually) I expect Hereford have by far the most funds at their disposal and why not when you are pulling in gatemoney 5 or 6 times what everyone else can attract. That only gets you a seat at the table . What you do after that is down to your management both on and off the field . We seem to be doing OK on both those counts at the moment.

Was that Dobbo's 1st headed goal.

Good to be back up to second but table a bit difficult to read with games in hand all over the place and the mismatch of home to,away games for some clubs.

If you look at it from the angle you should get an average of 3pts at home and 1 away (thus a good total at the end of the season is 92 pts.)The the table looks like this

1. Kettering +6

2. Slough. +6

3. KIngs L. +5

4. Hereford. +2

5. TIverton. -2

6. Weymouth -2

7. Frome. -5

Last season Chippenham on 103 were + 11pts above average ( we were -7pts in 5th)

Season before Poole on 93 were only +1 and 5th were -11

By the time we play on 9th December we will most likely have dropped to 5th maybe 6th in the league table and could be 12 points behind King Lynn. This way of viewing the table might be less scary by then !

Provided there aren't too many games in hand involved, where the task of playing them comes into play, I quite like the points per game approach which football web pages conveniently do for us https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/southern-football-league-premier-division/league-table/ppm Don't like their predicted final table though - too many assumptions.

Nice words BUT.

1. he says they can't match our attendance budget,.,.,.,.,.,. they've got higher average crowds than us as well a 4 other teams.

2. Their highest and lowest gates are bigger than ours, the biggest by 600. So I wouldn't say its down to the money it's the quality we got for less money.

3. It's the usual about chances yes if they had put away the 2 chances they had as he said they would of had 3 goals, BUT if we had put away all the chances we had shots blocked, Floody's dipping shot, shots just wide. Then it could of been 6 or 7 - 3.

If people are going to count chances they need to count them for both sides.

Another way to assess what's really going on is to look at the points lost so far Its true you can't rely on points not yet played for but points already lost by key rivals are gone forever! We are the only club with single figures conceded Just 8 KLynn 11 Hereford 12 Kettering 12 Weymouth 20 From 21 Tiverton 22 All our rivals would love to be in our position!
