v Hayes and Yeading (league cup)

I know it seems like a bind now (and the B&B ) with FA Cup and Trophy in full swing. But it's a great problem to have. We were in a similar position after beating Walsall in 2004/05. We got through 5 rounds of the Trophy and finally went on and won the league cup, a fitting end to a great season. Early rounds we rotated heavily ( sound familiar) but picked strong sides by the semis and final.

We are not going to win the Cup or the Trophy really, so if we could just scrape through these early rounds then when we are out of the other cups this will be a great opportunity.

Yes it's all about winning the League , fully understand the managers reticence as they are in the results business but as a fan we are in the Glory business. I wanna win Tuesday.

All fine and dandy as long as it doesn't affect our chances in the league for which there is no way of telling. We are already starting to get a congested fixture list and this is without the weather possibly playing a part. Unfortunately we've also just started to pick up some injuries and even more unfortunate that the injured players are mostly our strikers.

I really don't see the point of risking our chances in the league for a couple of tin pot cups when there are no financial rewards to play for.

We will play a minimum of 58 games this season. Assuming we lose in all of our next cup games and avoid replays, this also assumes we don't play any payoffs at the end of the season.

In 04/05 we finished mid table, after being promoted the season before. Pretty good considering.

The main reason for not wanting the extra league cup games is that it takes precedence over league games, and ends up knocking those out.

We already have started filling up Tuesdays in January, and it won’t be long before February starts also, and as previously mentioned whilst weather won’t be an issue for us, it will be for away games, and we will lose some no doubt.

After tomorrow night we could be 6points and 3games behind Kings Lynn, and by the time we are out of the FA Cup and Trophy we could be 5 games and more points behind, that is where the problem lies, in that it’s all well and good playing catch up, but mentally it is tough when you are so far behind, and the pressure is huge to have to win every game.

This will only magnify should we progress in the FA Cup and trophy which could well happen.

Having watched Kings Lynn at Banbury on Tuesday they are a real threat also, and I believe they are out of pretty much every cup already, which will only help them.

Basically the game on the 5th against Kings Langley has been postponed due to a cup game for them, so at present we would have a spare Tuesday after the FA Cup game, so we have spoken with Redditch about moving the game on the 28th to the 5th so that we still have a game after the FA cup, but it also gives us a free week in the lead up to the 2nd round.

Obviously if we get picked for the Monday night TV game, it will go back to the 28th, Redditch are happy to help out either way.

The further you go in the league and county cup the more league games we fall behind plus potential injuries from all these extra games. We all want promotion this season and with a small squad we can’t cope with 5 competitions.

Totally agree, I said the same thing when we went on to win the league cup, but with all the cups we are still in I don't want to see us do a Daventry who after a great cup season fell apart after having to play catch up at the end of the season, just my opinion.

I wonder if Mark Scott will play tomorrow as it’s an ideal game for him to return being it’s a no pressure game? Plus we need to protect our better players (i.e. Jack Turner) and as Scott was included on the bench for the Gainsborough match he must be ready to play? I suppose if that’s not an option maybe Jacko can be called upon? I’d personally try and also rest (aside from Turner), Lench, Dobson and Flood.

A stronger squad than I expected, with most of the first team squad plus the addition of former players Darren Wheeler, Tom Biss, Tom Williams and Dan Read.

Good call by the managers . Have got people in to cover spots we don't want to risk but no point in going into the game half- cock as the first teamers who do end up playing will have a tough night.
