League games

Just looked at our fixture list for November, of the games we will play before our big FA Cup match.

Have to say, we are going to have our work cut out this month, as the four teams we play, are all current top ten sides, plus we have the distraction of the FA Trophy and the League Cup.

Any injuries, and the squad is going to be stretched.

Nobody want's to upset the rhythm of our winning squad but I wonder if we may look at a couple of loan signings ie cover for Jack Turner and possibly a utility player, to bolster numbers for what now looks a very difficult month ahead.

This is the concern of course with any cup run and a smallish squad. I’d personally sack off the county and league cup and dual reg a load of players to play in those games and concentrate on the main 3 competitions. I’m sure come January/February if we’re top or only a few points behind we could see some cup money utilised in bringing in some quality loan signings.

It’s hard enough keeping 18 players happy (as they all want to play every game) without signing any more on!

I understand the thinking but while the majority of the squad are fit we don’t need to sign anyone. If we start picking up more injuries then of course we will react to that.

I sure our managers have it all in hand. You are right, though GlenSTFC,we will have to box clever as to what our priorities are ie League, FA Cup. Trophy etc

Given that our squad is performing so well, you don't want to upset the apple cart by bringing in outside faces but with all these games coming thick and fast, a certain amount of cover will be needed.

To me January and February are way off and a lot can change between now and then. With winter approaching we will need to see how our current squad copes with it. Loan signings are not always the answer.

Anyway, the ride so far has been one of the best, so let's just hope it continues to be.

Surely though you will need another keeper as back up for the Rochdale game, as I'm presuming Mark Scott won't be ready to play and with the greatest respect to Jacko, he is no longer at the sharp end of his career in football.

Why would the Rochdale game be any different than any other game ?? Other than it might be on TV....

Scottie was on the bench on Saturday and would have come on if needed.

If Mark Scott is fine, that's dandy.

My reasoning was that you are playing a professinal team, which we don't do every week and that it would be sensible to have a replacement goalkeeper among the seven substitutes because you are only going to get one chance [or possibly two, if it goes to a replay] to progress into what could be a potential big earner for the club.

Putting an outfield player in goal,if anything were to befall Jack Turner, would in high probability kiss goodbye to any chance of causing an upset.

Has Mark Scott got the all clear to play competitive football?

If Mark Scott has been given the all clear to play I'd have thought he would have gone out on loan or dual reg by now?

Think the phrase is 'back up keeper' . Chance of Jack not completing a game about 250/1.

We have 7 players who can play back 4

We have 7 players who can play midfield 4

We have 6 players who can play front 2

Most priceless of all we have 18 first team players who must be loving their football.

I know I am!

As usual, things that are mentoned on a football forum are blown out of proportion.

Nobody has said replace Jack Turner or any of our current 18 man squad.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how well our players are performing but what I happened to mention was that we have a rather difficult month ahead and that maybe we would look at a couple of additions as cover for injuries.

On the goalkeeper situation we are lucky to have two very good keepers at the club in Jack Turner and Mark Scott.

Admittedly I didn't think Mark Scott would be ready to play such a high profile encounter or even a bit part yet but if Neil thinks he is, I stand corrected.

You only have to turn your mind back to our Walsall cup win all those years ago, to see what an important position the goalkeeper is, in games of such magnitude.

Shaun Allaway wasn't even in our squad, when he performed wonders that day, and I have no doubts that Jack Turner will do the same.

My opinion, though, remains the same in that we should have a back up with a fully fit goalkeeper on the bench,in case of an emergency for the Rochdale and any future FA Cup games but if Mark Scott is ready to play, who wouldn't be happy with him providing that back up.

Throwing him in the deep end, when he is bound to be rusty. I'm not so sure of.

Given the magnitude of our

Question for you Stuart, how easy do you think it would be to get a keeper now for the FA Cup that is firstly an able replacement, and secondly not cup tied??

As any loan keepers would come from league clubs, and if you want someone decent very unlikely to cup tie them.... so in reality keeper wise we are where we are... and whilst Scottie is not 100% I would have no qualms that if Jack did get injured he could do a job (if selected)

I think what Stan is saying is the chances of Jack getting injured are very low, and you only have 7 spaces on the bench, where you could have 7 players that could play a multitude of positions that is all.

Neil, I don't know how easy it would be to get a back up keeper or even if we can afford one ! ha ha !

You can only do,what you can do. As you worked wonders last season finding a quick replacement for Mark Scott ,it can't be a complete impossibility to find a competent keeper but of course,I don't really know.

In an ideal world and all that.......

Of course the question could be asked " What were the chances that Mark Scott would sustain his injury?" Anything possible can happen. Its weeks now since Marks consultant said he was physically fit to play again None will know if there any psychological problems until he plays a competitive game again Neil/Jon must be happy with things to list him so I'm happy with that!
