Hear Hear!

We are not an outlet for players who just feel like a game every so often (despite what some of the performances may suggest), it is probably one of the most vital seasons for years and this kind of thing is happening and is not helping.

I bet we pay him while he's away as well, to be fair it'll be a good excuse to let him go anyway as he is miles away from the player he was a couple of years ago.

I wonder if Robbo is still interested (PS I see matin scored again on Saturday)

I am very disappointed if indeed Simon is leaving. Over the last couple of seasons he scored over 50 goals for us, no mean feat with the quality of service he has been receiving. Are we that blessed with an abundance of strikers that we can afford to let him go? Frankly I just don't understand it unless we are about to sign Freddy Eastwood or Craig McAllister. After last Saturday's debacle, the only possible front formation we have available (but not now apparently) is De Souza and Martin, with Tomlinson playing in the hole. As I have said a thousand times before, the problem is, and always has been, the midfield. Of the 3 that played Saturday only Deacon was winning the ball, the other 2 may as well have not been on the field, for all the use they were.

As far as Brownie is concerned, I also heard that his trip had been planned on the basis that last Saturday was a free date. We all know that he doesn't possess the greatest intricate ball control skills in the world but what he does possess are leadership and motivational skills that no other senior member in the team even comes close to, a rare thing these days. He has to stay.

I am a fan of Brown for the reasons you outline, Woody. I can't imagine him playing in a side that gets beaten 9-1 although I suspect that view will be tested over the next couple of months.

However. Watch him when he next plays. The 'leadership and motivational skills' have not been on show for the past two months.

I am disappointed to see Simon Martin leave and I wish him well. He has been off the payroll for the past 3 weeks and he has been replaced, temporarily as it has turned out, by players from severall rungs down the ladder who, I suspect, were paid one fifth of his money.

I hope that the squad is now 'on budget' but to me, I have no doubt that further balancing is essential to get out of the mire.

no left back, no midfield hub, etc....we started out that way in August and no amount of messing about with the squad will remedy these basic shortcomings...no goalkeeper i might add. Clearly money is a major factor but lets not forget that we started out badly with a poor but pricey squad that Cook had "assembled". For me it is now time to plan for next season in the Ryman league and it is looking as if that is exactly what is going on.

Is that what you think, M&S?

Richards? Toms? Edwards? 'Signed' in order to 'have a look' at them with a view to next season in the Ryman Intermediate League, or whatever it will be called?

Don't you think that it's a little early to be giving up on thoughts of Conference Division 1?

I'd have to agree with you there. As much as I would hate to disrupt a winning reserve side which still has the league and cups to play for, it should be obvious the likes of Oakes, De Souza, Brown, Tomlinson will not be around next season and maybe one or two more should be given a chance to establish a first team place instead of bringing in untried youngsters from the lower reaches of darkest Essex.

Unless there is a 'significant' injection of funds into the club to buy/pay new players I think we should accept the inevitable and plan accordingly.

Won't make much difference Rob, that's not where the problem is. Apart from Hornchurch, Canvey, Kettering, Carshalton and possibly a couple of others, I would imagine our present budget is pretty much on a par with most of the rest and a good deal more than some.
