Town Exiles (Ilford FC) 2 Enfield Town FC 2

Recommended Posts

I agree that my view point was a long way away (more like 110 miles actually) but i did say that to start with. I also accept that the people who reported to me's views are no more, or less valid, then everyone elses.

It's just that it seems to me that every decision that goes against us is described as crap and everyone in our favour is brilliant. I find it a bit worrying - and i support ETFC.

Imagine how match officials feel when they read this. Someone else has also made the point about abuse as well - it won't do us any favours.

We also seem to be getting a reputation as moaning minnies.

Can't we have a bit more balance.

What the referee did wrong in the first half i do not know, but he definately was not biased towards either side.

What planet are you on? Are you looking for the missing Beagle Probe? Every 50/50 went in Ilford's favour and the referee gave no protection whatsoever to the Town players. On several occaisons Ilford players went through the back of Town players or were very late yet he didn't even speak to the players concerned let alone book them. He also halted play far too often where advantage should have been played. The referee got the reception he deserved at half time. He had a truly awful first half and our complaints against referees in this league are justified as the standard is appalling.

I have been on a round trip of 450 miles since the game yesterday so now is about the right time to add my 2p's worth.

I remarked last week that referees do not cheat and I will stand by those comments. They make decisions and have to stand by them whether we think they are right or wrong and they will not change their minds just because we make a lot of noise. Of course it's frustrating to believe that we appear to be on the wrong end of the decisions, but foul and abusive language directed at the officials at half time and full time will only hinder the progress of our club.

A case in point - both the linesman and the referee allowed an Ilford player to take a throw in from lane 6, three lanes away from the perimeter fence. For those in the know, this is not allowed and the throw should have then been awarded to ETFC because it was not taken from the right place. The ref' and his assistant didn't cheat, they just got it wrong! All right, it doesn't help our cause, it just shows that they need to read up on the laws of the game.

As for consistency, there will never be any when there are so many different interpretations by those in the middle. The main problem is the inconsistency within a game that aggravates situations.

There was an editorial in the NLP today about the conduct of players and the effect it is having on recruiting referees for games at grass roots level. One day, we could end up with so few officials that games/leagues will cease to exist because without these people, then games cannot be played! It's not just the conduct of the players that's the only worrying factor.

I must mention that refereees do not just report on what happens on the field of play. If they so wish, they have the opportunity to report a club for failing to control its supporters.

All right, as far as most ETFC supporters saw it yesterday, the officials would not be on their Christmas lists. So what do we do about it? Moan till the cows come home or accept that the better officials we would like, will not officiate at our games because they are higher up the pyramid? Therefore we have to put up with what we are given and get on with it. Let's try and get out of this league so we then play games with what we believe to be better quality officials.

What do we do from now on? I suggest that we certainly have our moan, but leave out the foul and abusive language. How would you feel if you were constantly criticised at work for a low standard of work or a poor performance? I bet you wouldn't like it? What would you do? Probably tell your work mates that the boss is a ............... I bet the referees are doing exactly that with their fellow officials - probably giving them the low down on how abusive some/alot of the ETFC supporters are.

I believe I have not upset anyone here for the comments I have made. Most ETFC supporters know who I am and can speak to me at any of the games. If you feel that you can justify abusing an official, then please speak to me or raise it at any one of the Society's general meetings. I can say one thing though - you would lose the discussion.

Let's get on and channel our thoughts and vocal support towards the team rather than focus them on all the negatives. Hopefully, it will rub off on the team and their performances as well as the officials!

For those who may think I am a silly old sod, then less of the old!

We have three away games and eight home games to come - let's try and leave this league behind with quality performances and another title.

listen to this, you lot are such a bunch of hard done by w*nkers at times. Look at us ETFC we have supporters so we have a divine right to slag everything and everyone else off in the league from officials, Clubs and Organisers...so sad. Truth is reality you all jumped ship and you know it. Now Laz is gone you want a merger so you can try and knick the history back......so so sad at times..it makes us cringe to read your posts, and I dont just mean the mid table boys......dear dear me

Same planet as you, unless ther is red mist about!

Totally agree with some of what you are saying about his inability to read the game and take the appropriate action when needed. However, the language directed at him at half time didn't help and will not help the cause of ETFC. Did I mention specific instances of his inability, only once I believe.

As for the last comments, sorry. but you lost me.

If you want to talk about jumping ship.

Talk to the master...Ie ..the 'Bird man'....he's not only jumped ship,he's flown the nest a few times, also.

Regarding my previous comment about the 'mid-table' men,i was of cause refering to where you'll finish the season, not where you are now.

As i've said before,i feel the standard of ESL officials currently holds the biggest threat to our progress....I was half joking at the time, but now i'm not so sure.

We just want consistency regarding the same offences in the same game.

Take anyone of the street and pay them 50 quid.....I'm sure the'd do a better job.

I must mention that refereees do not just report on what happens on the field of play. If they so wish, they have the opportunity to report a club for failing to control its supporters.

Since when have NL fans not been allowed to coat-off a ref,if they feel aggrieved......get real Andy, have you ever been to a premiership game.???

Andy.....Say a bad refereeing decision ultimatly leads to ETFC not going up,(if it hasn't done already) and all your hard work to get the ground ready for next season, goes to waste....will you be quite so generous.??

Maybe it makes them take a long hard look at themselves and their standard of officialing.

Andy - re vocal support!

I didn't hear anything at half time, as i'd already assumed my place at the bar!

Surely refs are fair game for a bit of stick?

As for gettin' behind the team rather than gettin on the refs case; then suits me; but come on this was a top of the table clash; and ETFC supporters we're the quietest I've heard them all season.

You can't comment on the Ilford game...you weren't there. Who says we want a merger? EFC are dead and going nowhere. It makes me cringe to read Abbey posts at times...pretending you are going places when you are not.

I agree with Andy and Jim. There is NO excuse for abusing officials - by this I mean real abuse, foul language etc. Obviously crowds are going to be partisan and bay for decisions in their favour, and howl at decisions against them, but do you truly believe that from over 100 yards away, biased and with no in depth knowledge of the laws of the game, supporters are better placed than a qualified referee 10 yards away from play, every time? Look at the variety of opinions of the game and its incidents above!

Yes, there have been some obvious mistakes by officials, but not nearly as many as by players or, judging by what I hear at games or read on here, by supporters.

Anyone off the street could do better? Right, you have a go then. I'm sure Andy can point you in the direction of the next referee's course in the area.

I am getting worried about the reputation this club is getting. At first we were welcome everywhere and everyone seemed to like us, but now it seems we are known as the spoiled brats!

Oh yes, I do have a bit of a problem with Cooper's attitude. He's a lovely player to watch when he's on song, but he wants to concentrate on playing football and not winding opponents up.

So yah boo sucks!

I think you should all listen to what Andy has said. He is talking a lot of sense. Although it is very frustrating and annoying to see Referees make 'mistakes', nothing can be gained by Supporters/Players abusing them. The Ref is hardly going to change a decision just because somebody calls him a cheating ****! What he can and will do is to put the abuse in his match report. He can and will report a player for foul and abusive language towards an official, which would bring a hefty suspension/fine. He can bring charges against the Club, for not controlling their Supporters, and believe me the FA and the Leagues will always support him. A club could be thrown out of a league, if the abuse was too bad, or the Referee said that it was that bad!! If a Referee is truly that bad, and there is proof, then Clubs have the right to put an official complaint in about him.

Morning all.....

I agree with some points that Steph and LS made although I dont know what game you was watching Cleggy. In my honest opinion I thought a draw was a fair result. A typical top of the table clash,a battle royal with both teams cancelling eachother out.

You done to us what we done to you and nicked a late draw although no team deserved to lose either game.

Thought the keepers were poor, most unlike both of them as I understand it, and I thought the Ref had a decent enough game although I do agree with the consistency thing, your number 2 got booked for kicking the ball away so why wasn't ours ????

Gotta say the only winner on Saturday was Concord...

PS....LS....The ref wanted a big brown envelope containing something for calling the game off....! i aint gonna pay that lol

I don't have a problem with supporters having a go at refs. However, two things are unacceptable. Refs do not cheat and as an ETFC fan I felt embarrassed when I heard some fellow fans calling the ref a cheat before half time on Saturday. I also am totally against the use of foul and abusive language aimed at refs and the opposition. Yes I do use a bit of bad language occassionaly but we are trying to be a family run club so the levels of bad language need to be checked.

As far as the game went on Saturday, we were very poor in midfield and if we are to challenge for the title this must be addressed urgently. Cooper was the wrong man for the job on Saturday. No disrespect to him but he is a smaller guy and repeatedly got bogged down.

Enough has already been said about the ref. However, the young linesman seemed too inexperienced and only seemed to raise his flag once the ref had made a decision. If he isn't able to make his own deciisons then he should not be officiating at this level.
