v Folkestone Invicta (FA Cup 4th qualifying round)

Thoroughly deserved win against a decent Folkestone outfit.

Made it more difficult than it should have been with the missed chances, 2 or 3 nil would have been a more accurate reflection of the game.

IMO most of our players were a decent 7/10 with the exceptions for me being George Wells with a superb performance 9/10 and Lenchy 8/10.

COYR!!!!!!!

We are never going to win every game playing stylish football , nor have amazing results like Merthyr. I thought we were thoroughly professional today , did what we had to do to get through a tricky cup tie and progress to the next round which is all that matters.

Now on Tuesday we have a real test of character. On the back of several big games , we will know our cup draw and will be only a few days from a massive game at Kettering. It could not be more distracting against a good Tiverton side. We will need every ounce of discipline to get a result.

Agree with nearly everything Neil says in his post match interview with John Porter, except for when he mentioned about seeing the game out in the corner.

To be honest, that's my pet hate in cup matches. I wish that the FA would bring a rule in that you can only do it twice in succession,a third time would be a freekick for the team losing and a booking to the culprit who goes to the corner.

I thought we resorted to going into the corner to waste time far too early, when in fact we had at least 10 minutes to play. What's wrong with trying to score a second goal and putting the game safe?

I don't mind a bit of time wasting to see out a game but I see it as unsporting when it isn't in the ref's added minutes. I know all teams do it but from a spectator's view, it does get boring to watch.

Anyway, me mentioning this is just a side issue for discussion on another day, as don't want to take anything away from what was a very satisfying win over a competent, battling Folkestone side.

Attacking wise Slough weren't at their best but still gave Folkestone plenty to think about.

I thought Wazza was our best player today but all our defenders put in  decent shifts. For me Mark Nisbet was outstanding at the back.

One player who hasn't had much of a look in lately and also deserves a notable mention was Gavin James. To me he livened up our attack, when some were wilting.Just a shame we played in the corners late on, and not in the goal mouth for much of his substitute stint on the pitch !

Nice to be in the next round, though, whatever.

In an ideal world you're right 3spirit but as the rules stand every team will do the same.

Personally I didn't find the time wasting boring because at only 1-0 up it was tense and the last thing we wanted was F'stone nicking a draw and then having a replay.

Well of course RR,you don't want Folkestone to nick a goal late on when you are only one nil up but you could argue that Slough in the second half are attacking the end with vociferous home support and have lethal goal finishers and yet we resort to playing the ball into the corner, when it looked as easy to finish Folkestone off with a second goal.

To me we've attracted a big crowd and the atmosphere heightens in the second half. We bring on Brad Wadkins and his sole contribution was to get booked for a foul in the corner and to keep going into the corner with Wazza. What a waste of two very good attacking threats and all it did was nullify our attacking intent.

The win today was more important than the performance, we cannot play swashbuckling football every week sometimes you have to grind out wins, today was one of them, thought wazza was outstanding today

Better to be safe than sorry. Yes, nice to get a top performance with plenty of goals but today the result was the all important thing. Besides I'm sure the vast majority of the 900 odd crowd went home well pleased.

Regardless of whether we were at home, were the better team on the day or it would have been nice to have scored more goals, at one nil the game was not safe. It might have nullified our attacking threat but it also made sure that Folkestone didn't score from a breakaway or punt up field.

Brad Wadkins and Wazza didn't need to be told to go into the corner they did it because they knew it was the right thing to do to ensure we got the right result.

I'm happy we won the game and agree we were the better side on the day. As Bakes said in his interview,we should have been more goals to the good, given the amount of chances that we created that went begging.

Without doing the Slough players a disservice, I thought Folkestone were an ok side but hardly troubled us.

Wazza and Brad were instructed to go into the corners by our managers. I have no problem we've these instructions to see out a game but for me I thought Slough had Folkestone on the rack enough to add to their goal tally and from my view I just felt it wasn't very positive to choose these delaying tactics so early, when we have such good subs, who can hurt sides.

Some fans will accept any old tripe.

3spirit you moan more than Nathan.

Not moaning just making a point.

Looking on the positive side, perhaps we nullified most of the attacking threats that Folkestone tried to muster?

The bench might have instructed Brad and Wazza to go into the corner but I'm sure they are both experienced enough to know when to hit the corner and close the game out.

I think you've got to look at it from a different angle. Yes, it could be construed as negative but virtually all teams in the same position would have done it and yes in theory we might have scored another goal but equally we could have given Folkestone the opportunity to score a goal and a replay that they didn't deserve and the last thing we would have wanted.

It's all about opinions but personally I was quite happy that we did it and are deservedly in the hat for Monday's draw.
