It could/should have been ten

This was a veritable feast of football, goals and excitement. Two hat-tricks, a missed penalty, three missed open goals, hitting the woodwork and keeping a clean sheet. Whether Farnboro fielded a weakened team, whether they are concentrating on safeguarding their league position or whether they are just inept, it doesn’t really matter – this was Canvey at their best.

Canvey took their opponents apart in a most complete way and mullered them. And all without Jeff Minton or Ty Gooden. The problem facing Jeff King now is that when they are both fully fit, who does he drop to play them? Everybody in a yellow shirt played a stormer today, especially the hat-trick heroes Ollie Berquez and that man Lee Boylan. But we mustn’t forget the superb performances by JK, Chenners, Wardy, etc., etc., etc. In fact, the whole team. But the player most on fire was Chris Duffy. I don’t know what he was on today, but I bet Greg Rusedski would like some; come to that, I’d like some.

You might think that by letting in six goals the visiting keeper was poor, but to be honest, he was the Farnboro Man of the Match. Pity he had no defence in front of him.

It seems that against poor footballing opposition Canvey sometimes make heavy work of things – the two recent derby games against Basilricay and Braintree come to mind where, although the score was good, the football wasn't entirely magic. But it’s a mark of Farnboro's pedigree that Canvey were able to play a great game of football and strut their stuff. The visitors problem was that they played their good football in the middle of the park, where Canvey let them, and they simply weren't allowed to play in the danger area, the Canvey penalty area.

Imagine Canvey playing sexy football, then imagine them on a double dose of Viagra and you come close to understanding just how good they were today. The next big task is to maintain that sort of form against Hayes on Tuesday. If they play only half was well, the points are in the bag. [color:"red"]Just heard, the Hayes game is now OFF due to them being involved in a Trophy replay. [/color]

Nice report Merv No Minton. No Gooden. 6-0?! It could have been that scoreline at half time. The only dissapointment for me was Canvey seeming to sit back after the break just asking for 'boro to get some confidence going forward. Not clearing the lines after one early second half freekick springs to mind.

The third goal helped and really put to bed chance of a comeback. Has Ollie ever got a hat trick before anyone know?

He scored 4 against Southend Manor! I remember that.

A hat-trick does spring to mind, but I can't remember who against. Definalty a few braces though!!!

ollie showed what an intelligent footballer he us today.. fking quality.. not sure what was wrong with 'boro.. none of their players seemed to have a mare, they didnt look as if they were crap and didnt make silly mistakes.. we just seemed to cut through em at will.. anyone know if they left half the first team at home to save em for the league..?

Your team were fantastic at cutting us down today, it has to be said, Pure class.

We had a few first teamers out, and these we our play makers, we had more of a ''muscle'' side out there today, and it showed.

I thought your strikers were very good today and to be honest you deserved many more than six. I haven't deen such a dismal performance in a long time now, and to be honest the score line flattered us. Our players really weren't up for it today, which was unfortuante. I agree with your coments about our goalkeeper ozzy today, he had a blinder. I do think though that the refereee gifted you the second penalty, not making excuses but he was very biased towards you. The conference referees are bad, but todays was a joke!

I think you will be a mid-table side next season, although you were good today, our performance helped you look it as we really were dire, but you will definately have a solid team, after a few summer signings. I thought your midfield and strikeforce were very good, but did not rate your centre backs.

Did you enjoy our rendition of ''we're gonna win the cup...the hampshire senior cup'' i thought it was class. Must ask, why were you not singing at 5-0 up?!?!? and ppl left before the end at 6-0 up! if that was us we would be having a bloody party!! really was a poor atmospere from the home fans and probably us too, seeing there was really only about 5-6 of us singing lol

Good luck this season and hope to see you next season - In the conference!lol

I'm afraid we have to admit it, our 'beach' is about as good as your midfield.

Nobdoy at Canvey is taking anything for granted, we all know it is a long season with another 20 league games to go. However, there is a certain degree of confidence and the difference this term is that instead of us hoping someone else will do us a favour, it's now them hoping for favours from us. No chance!

On yesterday's showing Farnborough don't look like a Conference side. Whether Canvey are or not remains to be seen. In the meantime I am happy watching some really exciting (dare I say 'sexy') football, watching my team win on a regular basis and seeing more goals than almost any other supporter in the pyramid (except for Cheshunt fans who have seen their team score 75 although they have let in 27).

And before anyone else gets on their hobby-horse, our beach still has more sand than Farnborough's, our candy floss is tastier and our caravans more cozy.

minton and gooden not playing either.. junior looked very pacy when he came on but didnt have enough time to get into it..

hayes away would a have been a big test but they have a replay.. leaves us looking forward to our bogey team hendon on saturday..

another difference this season is getting the result when it hasnt gone to plan.. maidenhead, basingstoke at the death.. that ability may be tested this saturday against a hendon team that always come to play at park lane and cause us problems.. usually with a lot of goals at either end

I think bogey or not we are 8 points from a promotion especially if ricay nick a point of the urchins. With jeff resting it means we will have some rested legs in Feb in the meantime Ollie is doing a good job.

Has anyone noticed him and Boylan seem to enjoy feeding each other as soon as one scores they look to each other I think in the conference this could be a real good partnership. They look like they are mates off the pitch and take pleasure in each other scoreing.

Haven't been on lately because there is a fault on my phone line, so I apologise for the lack of a report on Saturday.

Berquez and Boylan were on fire. It definitely was the best I've seen Ollie play. Duffers also had a great game but were we just superb or Farnborough really bad?

I'm afraid so mate! Phone line has been down since Friday and can't get a dialing tone. Every time you phone the call centre you get through to an automated voice saying there is a fault between the exchange and your property. It's bloody irritating!

I can only log on at work now!
