Ive been there several times when they were in the Hellenic League, Unless they have made improvements its very poor for car parking. Got there once at 14:10 on a Saturday and grabbed the last parking place, The crowd that day was 65.

Blimey they must both be nearly as old as our Manny! On paper it’s a very winnable match and we should be confident enough to say if we play near to our best we’ll win. Although the prize money isn’t as much as the cup it’s still decent if you can get to at least the 1st round proper where I believe the National clubs join in.

I don't see the FA Trophy as a 'Mickey Mouse' competition..... there's actually some decent prize money on offer, and an opportunity to get a well attended match against a Conference Premier side (Maidenhead v Aldershot league match yesterday attracted over 2,400).

I think the FA Trophy is the most important cup we play in. It's the one that matters which we have a realistic chance of winning and playing a Wembley final. I guess very few of those who went to Wembley in 73 (yes I know it was the Amateur Cup) or watched the Dagenham or Southport semis would see it as unimportant.

Slight difference with 73/74 and this year is that back then we lost our first FA cup match and only played 5 matches in the Trophy to win it. This year we will play at least 4 FA Cup matches and would have to win 8 Trophy matches (plus any replays) to just get to the final.

Add to that there were just 30 league games in 73/74 not the 46 we have this year. In fact in 73/74 Slough played a total of just 48 matches.

If we don't win any more cup matches this year we will play 54 games minimum.

It is not that the FA Trophy is not important but we have to think about priorities. League, FA Cup then everything else.

Where we differ is that I would prioritise the FA Trophy over the FA Cup - we would absolutely agree on the county and league cups. A premier league or championship cup would start a year wanting to do well in the league and FA Cup and I think our equivalent is the league and the FA Trophy.

Did you include the Midweek Floodlit League in your match count for 73/74? We played in that as well as the Athenian League, League Cup, County Cup, FA Cup and Amateur cup - only 3 games in the Amateur Cup of course as we went out after a replay in round 2 to Ashington. Still don't know how we didn't win the first game. It was 72/3 that we got to Wembley.

I counted every game listed on the main websites fixture list from that year.

I can't understand how any football fan would prioritise the FA Trophy over the oldest and greatest cup competition in the world, the FA Cup. anyway each to their own.

Maybe because there isn't a non league side that has any hope at all of winning the FA Cup, but you don't have to be considerably better than the squad we currently have and to have a bit of good fortune to make it to the final of the FA Trophy.... and if you haven't made a trip to Wembley to support your Club, I can tell you it really is an incredible day.
