FA Cup 4th qualifying round draw

Just for Sue as I hear she loves a 'numbers' thread... Folkestone aren't a big draw in terms of attracting a large crowd, does anyone think we'll crack 1,000? I would hope so but think it'll be close, also depends how many they may bring (200 odd?).

The last time we were in the 4QR we got 523 at home to Gosport at Holloways Park, not very many from Gosport.

You would hope for double that.

With the club having two free entries with a season ticket holder the week before if we put in a good performance surely it shouldn't be hard to convince some of the freebies to come back a week later for an FA Cup match to help boost the attendance.

Looks like a good opportunity to progress.... I would think overall they are a similarly quality to Dulwich, but their record seems to indicate they are much better at home than away, so we may see them playing for a draw.

There are still two other clubs from our league in the competition...... Kettering are away to Nantwich, and Hereford away to Eastleigh.

eastleigh are in the process at the moment of having emergency drain works done to their pitch after their game was posponed on saturday, due to part of their pitch being deemed unplayable  2 hrs before  kick off , although there was no overnight  rain and it had  been cleared for play the after noon before.   :(

Just read that story SRJ and as you say the league have offered, and it does say all clubs, the option of cancelling their mid week game if they have an FA cup tie on the Saturday.

It seems because of the long mid week journey to Lowestoft, Folkestone have taken up this option.

IMO if the Bostik league are prepared to give this obvious massive advantage to their clubs then the Southern league should do the same if only for clubs having to travel a long distance.

This is a massive game financially and I think we should do all we can to get the same advantage as Folkestone.

Having spoken to Kay, the Southern League have no intention of helping out any of its members clubs despite the Bostick giving there members the option (which I believe Billericay and Folkestone have taken up, not sure on the others)

So we will have to get on with it and we will travel to Merthyr on Tuesday night!

For me it's a double edged sword as we would only have to play the game that was postponed later on - which would add to any fixture backlog a prolonged FA Cup run (which I want us to have by the way) brought. The fact that our league match is against Merthyr - always a tough team to play against does make it worse but we do have to play all the games at roughly a rate of 2 a week anyway.

Another thing to take into account is how a team is playing and their results.

Taking travelling distances out of it.

If a team are playing well and on a good run, then most will feel that by playing the match as scheduled will keep that team ticking over at the same level, where a break may stop their high performance levels.

On the flip, if a team is not playing well then a break may be seen as a benefit to work on things.

Every manager and player will have their own thoughts on which is the best option for them.
