St Neots 23/9/17

St Neots have an excellent pitch which will suit our game perfectly so we should be confident of getting a result.

It is looking like another season of mediocrity for ST Neots but they will be boosted this weekend with the return of Tom Meecham for a one month loan.

A challenging week with two away league matches and a big home FA Cup match.... difficult to focus on one game at a time but hopefully we can pick a side to secure the three points in this one.

St Neots might not look to be in good form with only one league win so far, but they did manage to put 5 goals past Dorchester, and achieved a draw at Hitchin, so could be dangerous if not taken seriously.

It seems to have happen a few times recently where a few days before they play us, our opponents have secured a higher level/top signing!!! But I’m confident we can continue our winning run especially with a long midweek trip and a tougher match v Redditch before the big cup game. Would be brilliant if we can secure 2 wins in the league.

Lost 3-1 and deserved to.

Other than the 10 minutes before half time, when some effort was put in and we played simple football, we were awful.

Not sure why we played with a right midfielder as between Harris and Lench neither one was ever in position and never got the ball.

We will have to be much better against Redditch.

Turner MotM as he is the only one who could possibly be nominated from our team.

Pretty sure we've started with 2 strikers on each of the 8 games we've won. Today we went back to one striker plus 5 in midfield as we did in the loss against Kettering and the parallels were there to see - we struggled to assert ourselves for much of the game even with the early penalty. I hate to see it because teams who play one up front always tend to start hitting it long (and down the middle generally) and we don't play the passing game we're so good at.

What's Gav got to do to get a game, when he starts on the bench when 2 of our 4 strikers are unavailable? He's not going be match fit of this continues. If I was him I'd be very concerned about if I was even wanted at the club as he seems to spend a lot of time on the bench.

SRJ is right, we barely used the right wing with either Harris or Lench out there. We got what we deserved as we could not cope with their pace up front and gave the ball away too easily, especially when playing the ball long against two big centre backs.

Big and very tough game against Redditch on Tuesday, they have a 3g pitch so hopefully we can get back to what we're good at.

Not sure what the instructions to the team were, but I hope it was not just hoof the ball up the pitch and hope the 2 big backs don't get it, as this looked like how we were playing with only Flood up front.

This is not how Slough play best and it did not work at all today.

St Newt weren't great, but they kept their heads and worked hard closing our players down and that is all they needed to do as the rest we did for them.

The ref was on another planet (same ref who called the game off last year at the last second), and did not help the game flow and made some unfathomable decisions.

We do however still have 18 points from 24 and that being from 8 games gives us a 2.25 points per game ratio.

Can not allow too many more performances like that if we want to be around the top spot come the end of the season.

I wasn't at the game today but from the Twitter feed, Slough were drawing 1-1 up till the 70th minute, so it may be harsh to slag off our entire performance.

It isn't the result we wanted or expected but it could do us a favour in the long run, by bringing our lads back down to earth and showing that we can't be complacent against any side in this division.

Does seem strange that we elected to go 4-5-1,when we were on an 8 game winning run. The managers must of had their reasons for this formation, it just seems a bit negative to me to adopt this strategy against a team who are hardly setting the division alight at the moment.

That said, had we won, nobody would have mentioned this !

Let's hope the real Slough get back on track on Tuesday.

Just one comment from me, we didn't play 4 5 1, we were 442 with Lench in the same role as Manny plays I.e in the hole... it didn't work because all we did was go long, so you can make your own assumptions if we asked the lads to go long or play.

Unfortunately John Porter has been ill this week and is unavailable to do an interview, otherwise you would have got a bit more information from us, and our decisions.

On to Tuesday.
