Hitchin at home 12th September

Curtis

Another home match in quick succession against a Hitchin side that from results look like they have struggled this season.

From their three away matches they have one draw and two defeats only scoring 2 goals and conceding 5, but the match report from their weekend defeat 3-1 at Tiverton indicates this result might have been harsh on them, and their change back to a 4-2-3-1 formation enabled them to dominate much of the possession.

It's also important to remember that 6 or 7 of their starting line up tomorrow evening will probably be the same players that beat us 1-0 at home last season.

Bookies odds on this one are Slough 4/6, Hitchin 10/3, and the draw 3/1....... a considerably sterner test than the Dunstable match, but one we are still expected to win.

I expect a few changes to keep the squad fresh but there are a couple of players that I think would benefit from keeping their momentum going, Wadkins and Dobson. I would go with...

Turner

Jackman, Nisbet, Inns, Wells

Harris, Togwell, Lench, Dobson

Flood, Wadkins

As Curtis has said Hitchin's performances so far don't match their results. Reportedly the better team away to Tiverton but didn't get the rub of the green.

They'll be aiming to do a job on us like last season so I expect nothing other than a real tough game tonight.

My starting 11 for tonight:

                Turner

Jackman  Nisbet  Inns  Wells

               Togwell

     Dunn  Lench Dobson

           Flood Williams

Given that we have an important FA Cup match on Saturday, I would rest Floody,Dobbo and Wazza tonight [though might get on as sub if needed].

     Fraser     Inns     Nisbet     Wells

     Jackman  Dunn   Togwell   Lench

                Wadkins    James

Thing is Floody will definitely play and I'd have thought Manny Williams would start?

I think Manny Williams is class but I prefer when he is behind the front two, as this is where he seems at his most creative. He would be a starter for me in that role against Dulwich on Saturday. In a one off cup match at home we should be looking to go all guns blazing and see if we have the weight to blow Dulwich out the water.

Tonight I would favour power and pace up front and try to play tighter as a defensive unit. We will need Innsy to have a stormer.

I think we will have a good chance of overcoming Hitchin but I'm expecting a close game.

No just have 4 subs like the preview has stated!!!

Since when does a fan have to agree with management decisions?  :P

Don't you get a few bob for sitting on the bench?

I think Harrison Gilkes should be included ,if he hasn't anything on and if we can afford it, as it's good for him to be around the team ie good bonding/morale boosting after long injury, and would only be for an emergency, when he could play a very small part, ie under 5 minutes or when you are trying to run down the clock because of extra injury time.

Besides with players missing, there's a place available !

Jackman is a full back not a wing back. It would be better the other way round but didn't we try that against Kettering?

Gilkes has been at almost every home match and probably quite a few away matches ever since getting injured. I am sure he has been to the occasional training session as well even if just to see super Kevin.

When ever another player is injured or suspended Gilkes is often sat with them in the stands so I doubt he needs extra team bonding to catch up.

It showed a good depth to the squad tonight and not a bad performance from anyone either. We didn't seem to create tons of chances but when we did we were clinical. That said, at 1-0, it looked from where I was stood that Wells was extremely lucky to escape a red for his two footed tackle.

Manny was superb and probably worth Man of the Match had Dobbo not got a hat-trick. Dobbo really responded to his half-time rollicking on Saturday, showed an excellent attitude and worked hard for the team. A mention for Floody too with his link up play and lovely assist for the 2nd.

Any info yet on Turner's injury? Top marks to him for seeing the game out and being ever reliable.

Don't know where footballwebpages get their information from but they have us winning 3-0

https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/southern-football-league-premier-division

Maybe from the Evostik League site which also has it as 3-0

Thought Dobbo had one of his quieter games !!! Can't believe Flood did not score with that header, he deserved it after setting up the goals for Dobbo. Thought it was an excellent performance all round. The last 2 results mean the managers have acheived a reallly good player rotation.

Surprised the crowd was so low but looks like all teams had bad crowds tonight ( even Hereford only had 2000 ) .

Good support though , well done all those whose singing in the rain it gave a good atmosphere.

Let's hope a few more now turn up on Saturday.
