v Berkhamsted

Our effort and attitude was spot on today on what can only be best described as a Sunday morning park pitch.

Bit nervy for the first ten minutes but once 'lovely legs Manny' soared at the back post and nodded in a pin point Lenchy cross we settled down and started to control the game.

Togs 'pile driver' before half time followed by a terrific volleyed goal from Lenchy in the second half was more than enough to seal a comfortable win and in the hat for the next round.

MOTM for me was Matt Lench with an excellent all round display setting up our first goal and scoring the goal of the game.

COYR!!!

PS I wouldn't say no to a home draw against Salisbury in the next round.

Yes thanks for the hospitality - thought your no. 10 was a bit tasty!

I thought Sean Fraser and Alan Inns struggled with their positioning early on. Alan Inns heading was impeccable but between him and Sean on the deck, both found the going hard against the pace of Berkhamstead's number 10. and the intelligent play of their number 7.

Sean, in particular, seemed to push up a lot and him and Innsy got caught out on several  occasions because of this.

A better side would have punished us but luckily Berkhamstead never capitalised on this situation.

A comfortable FA Cup win today, was expecting a harder battle than it turned out to be and if anything, Slough should have won by a bigger score. Anyway, all that matters, is  we are in the next round.

For me Lench, Dunn, Harris and Flood were our best players on the day, with Matt Lench probably edging Man of the Match.

I was also expecting a much harder game than we got but much of that IMO was down to our players attitude and approach to the game which was spot on.

Make no bones about it, with that small enclosed pitch and poor quality surface it was a very tricky tie to negotiate and I thought our boy's did an excellent job getting through to the next round.

Alan Inns has hardly played any competitive football so far this season so under the circumstances I thought he did OK and will only get better the more he plays and gets himself 100% match fit.

Strange that Berkhamstead let us off so lightly. I thought Steve Bateman would have had them fired up more than they were.

Obviously there's a gulf in class between the two sides but I was surprised how little resistance was offered from Berkhamstead yesterday. They had their odd good football moment culminating in their goal scored, and while they have a few useful players, I thought as a team they lacked the in it together spirit and the necessary desire of get anything from the game.Too many looked like they couldn't be bothered and had resigned themselves to a defeat.

Thankfully you couldn't level that at our team. Slough coasted to victory, really and deserved to win.

I wonder what Steve Bateman thought of his team's performance?

I think they were fired up but sometimes you can only play as well as the oppo let you. There are times in the FA cup where class tells and I think yesterday our superior class and ability was evident.

I think he said he was proud of his players but they just came up against a far superior step 3 side.

According to his Twitter account, Steve Bateman was proud of his players and with more luck would have took the many chances they got.

I know Steve is good at PR and luck can play a part in football but think he is over egging his team this time round ! ha ha !

Berkhamstead have a good nucleus of players for their division but may need a couple more additions to win the title. I hope they get the good fortune to do it.

I agree to a certain point, RR. Slough indeed have higher quality in comparison to Berkhamstead and of course, it's a huge ask to expect a team two divisions lower to cause an upset but as we know it can happen.

Not knowing the Berkhamstead squad thoroughly, it's hard to know what players they have at their disposal and what attributes they offer.

From that game yesterday, I was unimpressed by their closing down of our players or their lack of bite in midfield areas. In other words, our players had too much time on the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Berkhamstead fell short but for me it worked well for Slough, that they gave our players time and space to play it around.

The game never felt like a blood and thunder cup tie.

I'm taking nothing away from our Slough players, who are a class act with their movement and passing when they build up a head of steam. I just thought Berkhamstead never really got to grips with our team and so the outcome never looked in doubt.

If anything, I think Steve Bateman stuck to his guns and tried to play Slough the right way, by Berkhamstead's footballing ability alone. To me that was always going to give Slough an advantage, as Slough are always good against the better footballing sides. To me that played into our hands.
