Farnborough away 28th August

Looking at their results so far this season, especially the last two losses..... 3-1 at home to Redditch, and 3-0 away to Merthyr.... I was thinking we might be in for a similar quality opposition to St Ives or Gosport.

But there is a bit more behind their results:-

1-3 at home to Redditch - goalkeeper Liam Stone was sent off just before half-time with the match level at 0-0

0-3 away to Merthyr - first choice goalkeeper Liam Stone suspended for this match, and on 32 minutes with the match level, Farnborough's Josh Huggins was sent off for 'an attempted head butt'.

Will that mean he's suspended for Monday? Or does the suspension not start for 7 days?

They do have Jamie Cureton in their squad, but in his four league appearances so far he hasn't scored, but Monday is his 42nd birthday and I am sure he will be looking to celebrate with a goal.

Early days but Farnborough are pointless at home and no team in the league has scored fewer goals Our confidence will be high following 3 consecutive victories and I will be surprised if we dont take the points from this one.

As Curtis has pointed out there have been contributing factors to Farnborough's mediocre start to the season so their results so far, in my view, are probably a bit mis-leading.

Having watched their videos I think Farnborough are much better than their results so far indicate.

Farnborough's keeper Liam Stone will be back from suspension tomorrow and I'm pretty sure yesterday's sending off will come into effect next Saturday i.e. 7 days from the offence.

I think it will be a close contest but one I believe Slough should be capable of winning.

Looking at our league fixtures ahead, September looks a good month for cementing our place in the Top 5, given the quality we have at our disposal. To do this we need to be beating teams like Farnborough.

October looks really challenging,in terms of the teams we're be playing that month. It will prove how good our squad really is.

From what I've seen so far I think we have real grounds for optimism in our target of getting promoted but it really is still early days and we shouldn't be taking any opposition lightly.

The team I would like to see is this one

                           Turner

                  Hollis   Inns   Nisbet

           Fraser    Dunn   Webb     Wells

                              Lench

                     Flood     Wadkins

but tomorrow think it could be

                               Turner

           Fraser     Hollis    Inns     Wells

           Harris     Dunn    Webb     Lench

                          Flood   Wadkins

........which I wouldn't mind seeing either.

I would start with Brad Wadkins,as he hasn't started a league game yet but because Gav James scored Saturday in his sub appearance, think he may get the nod.

Quote from the FA Handbook for this season :

the period for automatic suspensions being imposed has been reduced  from 14 days to 7 days after the offence.

Take a look at the Farnborough twitter feed and listen to Spencer Days comments re the Merthyr game and other things

It is never his fault !!!

we will easily over turn them with our massive squad of 20 players compared to their tiny squad of 20 players.

Have to sympathise with Mr. Day on one point, Merthyr should have been down to 10 early on, which would have changed the game for sure.

Moaning about making a trip to Wales on a weekend is a bit rich, every other team has to make a similar trip, sometimes on a Tuesday!

I counted 23 in their squad, 3 more than our "massive" squad. We all get injuries and suspensions as well, not just Farnborough.

So it should be a walkover for us as their players are apparently knackered from playing with 10 and having made a long journey LOL. Their first choice goalie will be available as will the guy sent off Saturday, both should be pretty fresh as well!

Didn't we have a long journey to Hereford last week? Ridiculous!

Welcome to Step 3 Spencer.

Agree about the stonewall red for the Merthyr player. I think the Ref tried to justify his decision by saying there was a covering player which there wasn't.

I would like to think the ref is made accountable for such a ridiculously poor decision if the authorities get to see the video.

I know your joking but we only have 18 players, as the other 2 are Harrison and Scotty. and as BG says they have 23 ( but how many are as Scotty ect)

I was including our injured players yes, but if you look at their website I was counting the players who are actually in their squad to be picked which is 20 (They have 2 players out on loan plus Oyenuga is leaving them to sign for a welsh team so I didn't count any of them)

I would much rather have our squad than theirs, even if it is smaller.

Farnborough have some very talented players but every game I have seen them play they always play for themselves and never play for the team. They come across like a group of individuals, unlike Neil and Jon's team who look like a team.

Don't underestimate Farnborough as they have more than enough individual quality to win games, but if we play like we normally do we should beat them working as a team.

So, we "thrashed" them 2-1. Their goal came after they had been reduced to 10, full back red carded for a blatant and cynical trip on Gavin James who was through on goal. Before that we hit the bar had 3 cleared off the line and their keeper made some top saves. At HT we should have been 4 up and out of sight.

Got to say their 12 made a difference when introduced and it was his run and deflected cross that gave Coles the header to score.

We got our act together for the last 10 minutes and might have scored earlier than 90+2. This was thanks to a Chris Flood header which was over the line before being hacked clear (according to the lino, but presumably not their manager, we'll see on that one).

MOM for me was Sean Fraser who did the Togwell role for us. We tired massively second half after total domination in the first, obviously the hot weather didn't help.

Came away from the ground feeling I had been to two games, totally dominated first half their defence was in total disarray at times how we only scored one goal.come the second half the final ball was just not there, from where I was standing Gav won a stonewall penalty think the ref did not want to punish them twice, the sending off seemed to gee them up and they were slinging high crosses into the box you felt they were going to get one chance and they took it.But justice was seen to be done when Floody got the ball over the line and it was over.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Overall a 6/10 performance we will get harder games but we have a very good squad and we will get better

We should have been 3 or 4 up after an hour, but we didn't finish our chances and they were a bit fortunate with goal line clearances and some refereeing decisions.

At 1-0 there's always a danger an equaliser may come on a break, and it did..... looked like we had thrown 2 points away, and then Flood popped up and played our 'Get Out of Jail Free' card!

Overall we deserved to win comfortably, but ended up being fortunate to win..... hopefully a lesson learned.
