Could we become a Community Interest Football Club?

Arn't all the details at Companies House regarding how much money Steve has been funding Slough Town FC? or am I completely wide of the mark?

Small company accounts provide very little information, and do not include a profit and loss statement, and as such, funds donated by Steve to the Club are not shown on the freely available accounts filed with Companies House.

Sorry Sue firstly... Gate receipts is the largest income so I wasn't going to include minor income like how many mugs we sell!!! I think a conservative estimate of an 18 man squad plus management budget would be circa £4,000 per week. So let's say an average per head of £5 (would be higher but including ST sales) x 600 = £3,000 but that's not including other outgoings like ground rent, stewarding etc... and you'll see what the shortfall is probably near.

There is obviously very little in the way of positive interest in this....... so could a 'moderator' please close this thread (please note that it was me that started this topic).

I don't think there is a need to shut this thread down. To me it's a very valid topic that should be discussed on the fans forum.

By the way, Curtis, I think it's too simplistic to say AYE or NAY because from my perspective I think I have only witnessed moneyed chairmen run clubs and have next to no knowledge on what it would take to run a fans led club.

I would say, though, I'm open minded to the idea.

3Spirit All Curtis is asking an Aye or Nay for is finding out what is involved in setting up and running a community based club Nothing more than that.

I know that, Irishadrian !

BUT what I'm saying is what's the point of saying YES or NO [Aye or Nay] if we don't know what is involved in setting up a supporter led club.

I think every Slough fan would be interested in a supporter/community interest club if we have no alternative.

Nobody would want the club to fold.

However, most of us haven't got thousands or millions to donate and so the likelihood is, that most are likely to favour a new rich chairman.

My view is I'm 65% for a new chairman,  35% for supporter run club but that doesn't mean I'm a NAY !

I'm sitting on the fence till we all know the facts.

No Curtis - the trust was set up 10 odd years ago and has been saving money for this rainy day and must have many tens if not hundreds of thousands saved for this time - no need to worry.

Rebel1965 how do you think the trust has "saved up many hundreds of thousands for this time"? The trust's main source of income is the membership fees.

The trust has already donated £2500 to the club this year and over £35,000 over the last 14 years as well as £20,000 to other local charities.

I  assume you are a member of the trust and if so you will see from the annual accounts how much the trust has in available funds.

ALL

The above discussions are very interesting but do not forget some other forms of funding are from Sponsors, Board Advertsing, Golden Goals, Sponsor a goal, Player sponsorship,500 club etc.

If there is a wish to run the club more as a community club everyone on this forum who is saying Aye should be ask themselves how they can help to increase the income of the club. Quoting our PM there is not such a thing as a " magjic money tree".

I ask all of you how can you personally help to generate more income for the club?

Those that have no.t could join the 500 club for starters.

Also join the trust and be proactive. come along with your ideas at the next trust AGM.

Steve Easterbrook has been a fantastic chairman over the last 10 years and he deserves a break from all of the pressures that he has had  with our well published issues initially and the negotiations with regard to the new ground.

He has also put in place over the last year a steering group and operational management team to take on more of the day to day running of the club. If we wish to grow we must run the club professionally as a business.

We should not be too despondent until it is clearer what the long term structure of the club is. I am certain Steve will ensure that there is a smooth transition. Bearing in mind he has said he is only standing down as Chairman to give him more time with his family.

Too much doom and gloom can filter down to the team on the field.

Lets look at this as a new era.

However. back to my earlier point no club can survive without income. Please try and support the club wherever you can and also try to involve your friends. family and colleagues at work. If any one wants to join the 500 club or wants to take part in any other fundraising. You can let it be known on this site and one of the trust board members will follow up.

If anyone knows of any company that may wish to get involved in advertising boards or any other form of sponsorship please also see a trust board member with the contact details and we will ensure this is followed up.

I personally do not want a chairman such a Glenn Tamplin involved in our club.

If people are interested in a community club perhaps first you should volunteer your skills and help the current set up, that way you might get an idea of what is needed to actually run a football club.

They might not need your skills now but that doesn't mean they won't in the future.

I let the club know what skills I could offer and it was a year before they needed them, but as soon as they did need them they remembered me and I am now involved in a small way. I do a hell of a lot less than most volunteers at the club do, so I can guarentee you there is a lot of work needed to run a football club.

Thanks for an excellent post bluerebel.

I think Rebel 1965 was just being facetious with his comment on the Trust.

Considering the amount of arguments and in house hostility towards each other on this forum, how on Earth could we [the fans] run a unified Supporters led club?

ALL Slough fans should put their differences aside, if we need to find a solution to Steve Easterbrook's exit plans, for the betterment of the club as a whole.

It couldn't be run and managed on a forum, where because of a degree of anonymity people tend to be much more confrontational, argumentative and antagonistic.

Am I missing something?

There's always going to be odd one or two but I don't see much hostility towards each other or many arguments on this forum.

Plenty of healthy debates and differences of opinion which is to be expected.

Curtis is well aware of the problems and failings of a supporters lead method of running a club, as he was at the center of MYFC which nearly crippled Ebbsfleet with the madcap schemes they tried there and it was him who negotiated MYFC's tail between their legs withdrawal.

And now look at MYFC - just a handful of members and the laughing stock of non-league football.

I trust in Steve as he delivered on his commitment when he took on a very sick STFC and has nursed it back to being one of the healthiest clubs in non-league.
