Starting 11 for Kettering

Recommended Posts

I would go with the same as 3spirit but with Williams instead of James.

I'd be half tempted to go with Fraser in midfield instead of Webb and Jackman at RB. Longer term, Togs back in for Webb and assume Inns will establish himself.

Nothing against Webb, think he had a very good pre season, just don't think I've ever seen Togs have a bad game and I like what I've seen of Jackman.

Great problems to have and a few are going to have to be patient for their chance. Interesting that there didn't seem to be a settled captain pre season as well.

To me, fans under rate Nathan Webb and over rate Lee Togwell and Simon Dunn. My feeling is all three can do a good job for the team and each bring different qualities to their position.

In my eyes there's not a lot to choose between all three of them. It really depends on what game plan you are playing to, for which one's are preferred.

I like Josh Jackman, too and he seems to added to his physique, which is a plus for the rigours of the Southern Premier. However I favour the experience of Sean Fraser for the Kettering match.

I'm guessing that Inns would have been captain but for his injury.

I would start the Kettering game with 4-4-2 of

                                        Turner

                     Fraser   Hollis     Nisbit   Wells

                     Harris   Dunn    Webb   Lench

                                 Flood    James

Subs Jackman, Inns,  Dobson, Williams, Watkins.

That way we can keep in tight for the first 45 minutes but still be a handful for Kettering but come the 2nd half,if we haven't got a grip of the game, I would go adventurous and bring Manny Williams and Dobbo on then tinker with the formation slightly.

To me,it isn't just what we do, it's what Kettering does in terms of their shape and how they are going to play away from home. With this in mind, is why I would start with an orthodox 4-4-2.

What's brilliant this season is all our squad are good enough for the first eleven, something we haven't had the luxury of for years and all of them can slot in whatever formation we want to play.

This Saturday Nathan Smart and Lee Togwell would miss out for me but both would get chances to feature in upcoming matches, especially if we do not get into the rhythm of winning games.

As wer're playing on 3g Satuday I wouldn't rush to play Alan Inns.Probably use him in the first eleven for the Hereford game.

I think Bakes said regardless of how well we play on Saturday changes will be made for the next game. So whoever is left out will be involved on Tuesday.

In my team SMART starts, no question.

And I think you can now all see the dilemma we have (a good one): I think RR has Webby missing out completely, yet a number would say he has arguably been one of our best performers pre season and only missed one game, 3Spirit has Smarty missing out in the 16, where with Dolphin Rebel he starts no question.

As Rebel 1965 said he is the only one that is correct with his assumption that Jack Turner will be number 1 ;)

It is however interesting seeing peoples formation and teams.

Without a shadow of a doubt the best squad we have worked with in management, lets hope that we can start the real games with 3 points, however I think we all know how tough it will be.

In terms of the crowd, really try to encourage new and old supporters to come to the game, and lets get Arbour Park rocking, at times whilst it is a fantastic place, I feel we can be a little bit quiet, so get your singing voices in gear and really get behind the lads Saturday. COYR

I don't think fans under rate Nathan Webb's undoubted skill and ability but they might question other aspects of his game. Having said that he has certainly stepped up to the plate with his performances in pre-season.

As for Togs and Dunny I think all the plaudits they get from the fans are thoroughly deserved.

I have absolutely no idea what we will line up like on Saturday but I personally am struggling to see how Sean Fraser wouldn't get in a large portion of people's teams. I haven't been to too many friendlys and yes, in the ones I've seen josh has played well but so has Sean. I can't really see any reason why he would be left out as a proven consistent performer. I do understand that we will probably see more rotation than ever before this year due to the quality of the squad but for me Sean is the one player I just can't imagine us leaving out.

Very similar to what I would expect the line up to be, but as Radders has pointed out, Fraser has to be part of the line up, if he doesn't start in centre-midfield (where he has played a fair bit in pre-season), then he would at right-back. He's currently on 223 appearances, and I would be surprised if he doesn't surpass the 269 and become one of our all time top 20 by the end of this season.

Agree that Sean has been a consistent performer over the time that he's been with us but I also think it's fair to say that for possibly the first time in a while we have real competition in a lot of positions including the right back position with Nathan Smart and Josh Jackman both of whom have been excellent when given a chance.

As you say Sean has done nothing wrong and in all probability will start on Saturday but if we want to have a tilt at the title this season players and supporters will have to accept that a player may have played a blinder but that player could well find himself on the bench the following game.

I don't believe that a player who has a blinder should be left out. Anyone playing a blinder the previous game should be an automatic choice for the next game.Unless of course,a certain formation or a different way of playing is needed.

To me it's the player who plays crap, who loses his place. Crap to me, is well below par of the standards that the player normally reaches.

Just because we have a good squad I don't belive rotation is the best policy for the first eleven.

We have a tough opening 8 days to the season with two longish away trips, so it would amaze me if we didn't change personnel for the trip to Gosport next Tuesday ahead of the game at Hereford. Not wholesale changes, but I'd certainly expect us to use more of the squad, and not just because certain players had not performed well.
