littlehampton Posted August 4, 2017 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Tonight Town welcome our friends from Bedfordshire.With our opening match of the new season just one short week away, Town host Barton Rovers of the Southern League this evening, at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, in our final pre-season friendly.It provides a great opportunity for us Towners' to see how manager Andy Leese's new look team are shaping up, before the real business starts next Saturday, when we entertain Folkestone in our opening Bostik League Premier Division fixture.If you are at a loose end this evening, fancy a couple of pints, some company and a bit of excitement, why not join other Towners' for some Friday night action under the lights. In a very short space of time, the manager has brought in a whole new team and gelled them together brilliantly. I'm really looking forward to next Saturday, optimism is the mantra. I actually think we are stronger all over the park than last season and all the players are looking out for each other. Great team spirit is very evident. Cant wait for the season to start. Not seen since Jordan left and even he was not used properly by Borg and Quinton. Of the two managers I think we got the better of the changes than Braintree but we will see next week. PPotential Posted August 5, 2017 Share Posted August 5, 2017 I agree that the squad looks stronger. It's also nice most of the goals in pre season have come from forward players. AnfieldTowner Posted August 5, 2017 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Don't think we should get too over confident yet - much of the pre-season opposition has been from a lower level and I suspect that, as usual, some that have featured in the friendlies will move on when they don't get into that first 11. Andy and Darren have made some great signings, with plenty of experience and ability, and are to be congratulated on pulling together a team who support each other, play attractive football, make use of the whole pitch, break quickly, score great goals, and demonstrate a strong will to win. Yes, this is Enfield Town I am talking about, and you will gather I was pretty impressed. There was plenty to admire about our football, and therewere some good individual performances to admire. We still have some first choice players to come into the reckoning, and when they are available,our management team will have a very interesting selection problem. The real business begins next Saturday. Let's hope we hit the ground running, get off to a good start (which sadly we haven't done for the past couple of seasons) and make a strong statement of intent in both the league and major revenue-spinning cup competitions. However, I still feel optimistic from the calibre of players we've got and recruited. We will have a clearer picture after the first 3 games v , Folkestone, Hendon + Met Police. Steph1 Posted August 7, 2017 Share Posted August 7, 2017 I agree with most of the comments above. The only cloud on the horizon as far as I can tell was the Heybridge game. I did not go so do not know what happened but a 2-1 defeat against a side that we should have put away should be explained. There have not been many comments on that game so, perhaps, not many of us went. Comment from Raingod was "bit light at the back". From the games I have seen we seem to be put under pressure very easily with some nervousness at the back. It is true we break quickly but these breaks come from sustained pressure. Look at the series of corners that Barton achieved in the first half. Better teams may be more dangerous with those corners. The midfield are excellent at going forward but, perhaps, are inclined to forget they have to defend as well. As PR said "All will be clearer following the first three games".
