HORNCHURCH 0 LEYTON ORIENT 0 On a warm night, Hornchurch struggled in the first half to contain Leyton Orient, who fielded their first team, but they came back strongly after the interval, and Orient were in the end fortunate to come away with a goalless draw. Orient started strongly, and could have taken an early lead when Charlie Lee tried a shot from outside the area, but he put the ball high and over the goal. Hornchurch came more into the game, and Brad Warner sent a header just wide of the goal, after George Purcell had centred from the right. Orient looked commanding in midfield and a through pass found Jobi McAnuff, but he was crowded out, although he did enough to win a free kick just outside the area. Tristan Abrahams stepped up but launched his free kick just over the bar. A Jobi McAnuff corner was headed goalwards. Sam Mott saved but the rebound dropped in front of Macauley Bonne, and his first time follow up shot hit the bar, and although Abrahams was quick to pounce, his attempt was blocked by Nathan Cooper. An Alex Lawless cross in from the right found Macauley Bonne, and Mott again made a fine save. Jake Caprice broke through the home defence but put his shot over the bar. McAnuff picked out George Elokobi, but Kenzer Lee was quick to block the shot from close range. McAnuff was causing a few problems in the Hornchurch defence, and another cross found Bonne, whose header went just over the bar. McAnuff went on a solo run, but was tackled by Kenzer Lee. Abrahams followed up but Mott again saved. If Hornchurch were possibly fortunate to go in level at the interval, the play was far more even after half time, and Orient had a lucky let-off three minutes into the half when Charlie Grainger conceded a free kick on the edge of the box, handling outside of this area. Bradley Warner took the free kick, which beat the visitors packed defence, but Grainger dived to turn the ball around the post. With Orient back-peddling, Hornchurch launched a series of attacks, and the packed ground erupted when George Purcell took a cross field pass, cut inside, and crashed the ball hard into the net. After a lengthy discussion between referee and linesman, the goal was eventually disallowed. This was the signal for wholesale changes on both sides, including one moment where the O’s made seven substitutions at the same time. Mott made two consecutive saves, whilst at the other end a Kenzer Lee shot eluded the keeper but went wide. Hornchurch were now on top and a long Mott kick was flicked on by Leon McKenzie to Theo Fairweather-Johnson, but his shot was a fraction too high and over the bar. With time running out, McKenzie flicked on to Martin Tuohy, but his shot drifted wide of the target and Orient held out, but there was almost a sting in the tail when Jay Porter reacted quickly to deny Orient a possible scoring chance in the final few seconds. shrimper
I thought it was one of the best pre season games I can remember watching the urchins play in for a long while great to see the place full good weather and the Hornchurch players seemed up for the game with some hard tackles and blocks flying in and the game was played at a very good pace .. sam was on top form in goal also very impressed with brad warner and jay porter ... shame with the big crowd we couldn't have our normal good presentation with music etc to make it more of a show but cant be helped I suppose.... and roll on westham and lets have another local local side with a full strength team next season the likes of southend etc would bring another big turn out
