News from the inner portals of the old Cherry Red is that Crown and Manor will play Staines Lammes on 17th January with Basildon United playing the winner on 31st.

What a name for a trophy, sounds like a competition to slay a virgin.

the correct title for this competition is the Capital counties Feeder League Trophy. It is sponsored by cherry Red Books. Still, I agree an amusing name and one that teenage supporters probably giggle at when they hear it!

Which is probably exactly why they named the company Cherry Red Records (the parent company of Cherry Red Books). Whilst amusing it is also memorable and likely to stick in people's minds - exactly the same marketing reason why Richard Branson named his group of companies Virgin.

The Semi-Final draw matches Essex Intermediate League club Manford Way, from Hainault (London Marathon Sports Ground ) with the mighty BASILDON UNITED or Colliers Wood Utd (CCL)who play on 28th and the other tie is Frenford Senior v Hatfield Town or Stony Stratford .

I saw a sign for a Frenford Club near Ilford's ground, any connection?

Stony Stratford Town, by the way, is a really nice place. Ground is neat, bar is small.

You are not mistaken Sir, they used to play at Cricklefields, the Ilford ground, but now play at Oakfields Sports Ground in Forest Road, Barkingside.

I suppose if the two home sides win their semi finals, they can share a coach to the final at Potters Bar as their grounds are only a few hundred yards apart!
