Munchkin
Interesting letter from the league about severe shortage of officials for August, in summary: No Development fixtures in August Likely that Division 2 clubs will only have 1 official for August and September. Some Division 1 games will only have 1 official Clubs will need to provide an assistant in these cases. Wow

Whitley Bay
Bring back Mick Ewan Many agree - but the League's officials are unlikely to 'back down'.

Or no development fixtures in August have assistant referees?

patemondo
I don't think this has anything to do with the Mick Ewan situation although I understand why you might think so. Mick is missed imo but it is simply that there is a large shortage of officials for a host of reasons. In no specific order this includes, abuse from players, managers, spectators, travelling, money, missing promotion, being demoted, demotivation, assessment process, injury, policy of fast tracking kids, taking sabbaticals, other leisure activities. All of these at some point has been raised to me privately by officials.
OD's
This is the problem with running 4 divisions I guess. Did think starting the Development League on 5th August was a bit early though.
Karen Browne
No given the fact that clubs wanted fewer midweek games the four extra Saturdays would have been valuable to this. Starting the first week in September and if we go with no Christmas/New Year break for the Development League we have 35 Saturdays left before the finish on April 28 (I use this date as most Step 5 clubs want to be off their pitch in order for the groundsmen to start work getting the pitch ready for the start of another new season). With 17 teams in the Development Division and given we get a full programme of eight games every Saturday that means clubs face 32 league games plus 2 further weeks where they will be the bye team. But we don't live in utopia and I'm sure the British weather will play it's part plus of course we have the nightmare of the County Cup competitions to come. Then the issue of two clubs who have to vacate their pitch in April due to cricket. Now Midweek games will be a major part of the season
OD's
I think the jist of what clubs were saying last season, if I'm right, many Saturdays they were left without games. Looking back, the reserve divisions had 16 or 17 teams and only played 2, 3 maybe 4 midweeks, which I think is acceptable.

tringarmy
As long as you don't shake the referee's hand which could get you an 84 day ban at Step 5 & below http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40739861
Uncle T
Levy asked this question. If a non-contract player at step 5 is suspended does it mean that the player can still play at step 4 if under dual registration. Also if a player at step 4 is suspended does it mean that the player can still play at step 5 if a non-contract player and under dual registration And the answer was Yes you are correct they can play. There may be occasions where The FA applies the ban to cover both levels, however, majority of the time a player is permitted to play.
