3spirit, not sure I agree totally with your statement 'Judging any signed player in friendly games is a false premise'

That's what supporters but more importantly managers do in pre-season. Forget about trying different formations etc. managers can tell not only if a player is any good but also are they a suitable fit for the squad and their plans for the season.

What I was trying to get across was that the managers aren't going to go overboard on friendly player performances, as their 5 signings are all players they have seen before and our squad left from last season are players they wanted to stay.

Of course they are going to look for form, sharpness and such like to pick a team for the Kettering league game. I was more trying to make the point that viewing friendlies and making harsh judgements on experienced players is a mistake, as friendlies are nothing like league games.

Crossed wires I think. I thought you were talking about the two new trialists who will be judged solely on their performances in pre season.

Pete Skapetis won't be with us going forward, it is hard enough trying to give people enough minutes without an extra body.

I know Pete as he his the partner of my cousin, but don't think he will be ready for our type of football quite yet.

Paul is an interesting one as he is jumping up a couple of levels potentially, he definitely has something about him, and we like what we have seen so far, however as people have said we have some fantastic options going forward, so is going to be tough for him, but he understands the position, and if we decide he is not quite ready yet, it might be that we look to dual reg him out like someone mentioned.

Time will tell, and if he continues to do well we will have to look how we might be able to accommodate, one thing is early in the season you get lots of games so can often carry a few extra players.

I think we've the best in depth squad this season, to wthat we've had in years. We are going to have 5 very good players on the subs bench, which is fantastic.

If Paul Hodges can impress for the rest of the friendlies,he would be worth keeping around especially for local cup games etc and if he can get experience in league games from subs bench, when main players are out injured or missing for whatever reason that would be a plus but looking at our player options, he's going to have to be patient and wait for a look-in.
