Slough Town v Wycombe Wanderers

Recommended Posts

Yes great result and work out, although we have Jack to thank for making 5-6 excellent saves to keep it 0-0. Aside from Jack I though Alan Inns was very good until he got injured (hopzing it's not that bad?). The young small trial isn't (Paul...) looked lively. No one else particularly stood out but it was our first friendly on a hot afternoon against professional players, but yes encouraging start.

Have to agree the new keeper had a very good game. Looks like his shot stopping ability will be a great asset this year. Did not see enough of the other new players to form an opinion either way at this stage, although the left back showed determined effort to be fair.

However must say how good Sean Fraser was in each of the two positions he played.

I thought George Wells had a very good first half, and there were some signs that against weaker opposition he will be a big threat getting forward, and was a contender with Jack Turner for MOM.

In the second half though, Wycombe seemed to get in behind him on about three occasions which caused us significant problems.

I was impressed with out stamina today considering they changed nearly every player at half time so we ended up playing two fresh teams.  Some good performances by all those in amber and blue and added to that the new additions looked very useful and seemed to fit in well.

Only negative was one of the scum decided to let off a flare/smoke bomb despite a very clear message that these devices are not allowed in any football ground - therefore morally we won the game!

Off the field matters: the new stand does offer tremendous views especially from the top few rows. The bar needs to implement a better/faster queuing system as it took nearly all of half time to get a drink. Was it true there was no hot drinks available today and the downstairs bar was closed? There's a kitchen next to the bar and was surprised this wasn't in use and no food was available upstairs, hoping that will change soon?

As you've brought it up Glen   :)  I was looking for the tea bar only to be told by Steve Easterbrook that there had been a cock-up and that there were no hot drinks available (possibly the only football ground in the country with no hot drinks?). I don't know about the downstairs bar, if there was supposed to be one I would have thought it would have been where it was last season on Wycombe's side of the ground.

With a large crowd expected, which the council must have been aware of, I was absolutely gobsmacked that the upstairs kitchen wasn't open, possibly the reason why there was no hot drinks available?

Whilst the fully completed new west stand looked good, I think there should be more seating available inside. For example, on the outside at the boardroom end there was a wooden bench plus quite a few round tables but at the other end where supporters were there was only one wooden bench to sit on.

As you say hopefully the above will be resolved asap.

Just to add because it could be a real problem for the WBA game, parking at the Lynch Hill Academy was not available today. I don't know if it's true but someone said it was because the builders wouldn't allow it because there was still some rubble etc lying around which by the way has been there for weeks if not months.

Really enjoyable game. I thought all the new players made impressive debuts with the stand-outs being Jack Turner with some great saves to keep us in the game, George Wells, Matt Lench and Alan Inns until he came off injured. We'll just have to hope that the injury to Innsy it isn't too serious because he certainly looks a leader at the back.

With so few changes compared to Wycombe I was also really impressed with our fitness levels on a hot day.

Early day's but really impressed with what I've seen so far.

Also positive was that Scotty was out training with the lads and showing how well he is recovering.

The clapping at 6 mins in memory of Bradley Lowery was observed by all in the ground and shows the togetherness of the football community.

And finally to the totally unbiased young lino who was stationed at the Wycombe end for his performance - well done Tom Lathey.
