Wycombe Wanderers (H) - Saturday 8th July - ALL TICKET

Recommended Posts

We wouldn't have a 2,000 sell out Glen seeing as the current capacity of Arbour Park is 1,950! ?

Seriously, as there's a lot of questions and speculation flying around, hopefully I can clarify what's going on.

The ticketing, segregation and reduced capacity is nothing to do with any 'red tape'. I'm not privy to all of it, but I know there have been numerous discussions with various parties - including SBC, Thames Valley Police and Wycombe Wanderers security team - and the decision was reached after taking advice from all of the above.

As for the capacity on the day, the Club will be limiting this to around 1,400 just as we did for the Hayes & Yeading game. Both Slough and Wycombe have allocations, and these will be sold until they run out. Add to that any Slough supporters who have bought season tickets and get in free. Personally, I don't think we will get that and that a four figure crowd would be an achievement. But as with the Hayes game, it's a decision to ensure the comfort and safety of spectators and to ensure the Club can cope with a high profile game against a pro club (who we have history with) with sufficient numbers of stewards etc. It's also the first time the completed stadium will be fully operational with the upstairs bar open etc. It's not a case of the Club wanting to get practice in for hosting big games, though it will help in this regard!

Wycombe will get the entire East Stand and the LHEA end, with a bar and kitchen facility downstairs in the West Stand. Slough get the south end and the entire West Stand with bar facilities etc. I don't know exactly where the segregation will go or what form it will take - that is something the Club's safety officer is working on.

Ticketing arrangements for the WBA game will be announced soon but the plan is for capacity to be the full 1,950. I would expect this one will sell out.

The question about alcohol is the only one I'm not sure about, but it's probably a precaution to help reduce the chances of any drunken incidents spoiling the occasion.

So 1,400 tickets are available PLUS how many season tickets we have sold by that point who turn up. I'd presume Wycombe would bring their own stewards to monitor their fans/section. I think a few casual fans may be put off in that they can't just turn up on the day, so I too think it'll be around a thousand which is still a tremendous pre-season crowd.

Not quite Glen. The figure of 1,400 stated is an approximate maximum and includes Slough season ticket holders and both clubs' ticket allocations.

we use wycombe stewards anyway as not enough of the faithful want to do the job / are qualified.

One small point Matt. In your clarification you state regarding Wycombe Wanderers "(who we have a history with)''. This could imply to some that there has been trouble in the past which is far from the case. But since the Wycombe stewards have advised segregation and given your statement segregation regrettably seems to be the only option. Shame really.

Wasn't the decision in conjunction with SBC the police and Wycombe?

It wasn't my intention to refer to a history of trouble - I'm not aware of any. More that historically it's been a big rivalry for both clubs. I also think it's a shame we are going down the segregation route but it was a decision reached after discussions with various parties, including TVP and SBC.

I understand that Matt and we are in agreement. With regards to TVP and SBC being involved with the decision it seems to me that they would have been influenced by input from the Wycombe stewards who in turn would have possibly been influenced by their normal match day experience in League 2. Putting on rose tinted glasses yet again (sorry!) it reminds me of an occasion many many many many many years ago. We played Wycombe at Loakes Park and arrived to find the place swarming with police - on foot, motorbikes and horse together with a number of black marias. I spoke to an officer about this and was told that there had been trouble at the previous Wycombe match v Yeovil! I advised him that the police would be inactive and bored by half time which they were. I appreciate that this is a more high profile match than normal pre season friendlies and regrettably precautions have to be taken - just a shame really.

Seems there is some confusion by Wycombe supporters over where they can park.

Their write up on the game states that they can park at St Josephs which is not correct and the reason why some of their supporters are asking for directions to St Josephs.
