What was that?

on my drive home i had time to think and I know we have fallen along way over the years but I cant remember a more poor overal performance from a Slough team in 20 years of watching them. We created nothing until the 93rd minute. yes we can blame the referee as much as we like, but the fact was, he wasnt to blame for us conceding two goals against ten men. There is no way we will finish top half yet alone top six on that performance. Denton may deserve some credit for what he has done with limited resources, but with the re appearance of Ryan Williams it just confirms to me he has no contacts where you need them when it comes to bringing in players.

...that was Sunday pub football at it's worse

I agree with Mr Anon - that was shocking! No offence intended, but Walton are an ordinary side in this league and we were awful.

We could not put two successive passes together and could not cross the ball. Our best idea of getting a goal seemed to be to get a free-kick on the half-way line, get Murphy to punt it into the box and hope Daly gets his head to it.

Too may bottling tackles, not looking interested cos it's a bit cold and not looking up for it. There was a bit of an excuse against Windsor as they have some good players..

Why Williams is back i'll never know - if he wanted to join the Browne revolution at Wood why should we take him back now cos he's not good enough? - he made his choice at the time and why a few others who have been on the fringe of the side, but are still in the squad I will not know. They are not good enough!!

Only two that came out of the game with any credit were Murphy and Daly. Yes they made the mistakes for the goals, but at least they got stuck in and battled. It was cryout out for Freddie to come on in my opinion. Is he injured?

Shocking :-(

Absolutely agree with the sentiments above and with Ian's post on another thread.

Just for the record, I have never been stood in a better position to see an offside than for their first goal and it was definately off. Two walton fans agreed with me. More clear cut than Southport.

But frankly that decision was irrelevant. We were abysmal. I have a terrible feeling we will lose every game this month and I am including the Casuals away.

Why have we re-signed Williams? I know we are short of players but he was never exactly popular or influential on the pitch.

We are a team going backwards. I am sorry but I think the only solution is to bring in a new manager. Walton have lost exactly the same number of games as us and have replaced their boss. Why? Because they appreciate how important this season is. If we do not act we will be playing in the FA Vase next season.

Yes, some of the players did not show enough tonight but the buck must stop with the man responsible for team affairs. Denton should go now. Get an experienced non-league manager in and give him at least a shot of getting us into the top six.

I can't agree with letting Denton go. I feel he is holding the ship together in very difficult circumstances, although agree about Williams coming back. Why? A pacy winger or centre back is what we need, not a midfielder who's not quite sure about passing the ball forwards and was quite happy to jump ship over the summer to join Brownie at the Wood.

Was Eddie not here last season? Did he not notice that williams was not mister popular? Does he not think that we might not welcome back someone who deserted us for the wood?

I seem to remember that during our troubles with Browne last season, Eddie was taking coaching sessions which the players "loved". If I am not mistaken we did not get promoted last season. So here is a thought perhaps Eddie is not a very good coach.

So far this season I disagree with Eddie on the following: his formation, his team selection (sometimes), his substitutions (often) and his signings (sometimes). We are not getting better as the season progresses which would surely be the sign of a good coach.

Time for a change. A new regime, not one of the previous guy's coaching staff.

Short answer, no.

Have a look at the North table and you will see a very familiar story developing. Run away leaders, the wood have games in hand, on the fringe of the promotion spots. I just wonder what will happen there.

Well Boreham Wood lost 2-0 at home to Great Wakering tonight, but Boreham Wood isn't the point, and nor is Steve Browne. What a poor performance, although I've seen worse (at Croydon). What can we do? Can't agree with replacing Denton, but surely he could have found a better midfielder than Williams. And there were rumours flying around that Tony Boot has departed for Bristol City, although it's just a rumour - would be a big loss.

I'm afraid I'm already resigned to a non-top-6 finish and playing the likes of Beaconsfield next season. Ho Hum.

Another thing I would like to add is that we had no leadership on the field tonight, the only player that was trying to gee everyone up and inspire was Matty Miller, everyone else was quiet and not talking to each other, you would expect Steve Daly and Wilko to be the voices on the pitch. Also the fringe players that aren`t good enough are Mark Bartley and Adrian Brown, both are poor defenders who get turned far too easily and their distribution is woeful and either finds touch or an opponent. I am yet to be impressed with anything that chopper harris has done yet either.

Have to disagree about Miller (tonight anyway). Over the last few weeks when he hasn't been scoring most of the fans have been supportive because of his work rate and commitment. However, tonight I didn't see anything better out of him than anyone else either in work rate or in vocal encouragement. If anything I think Daly was pretty much our only player there tonight, though he did make a slip on the second goal. It was, having said that, good to see Miller find the net even if it was just a consolation, as hopefully it will start him up again after a barron spell. On your point about Harris, I feel that he has shown glimpses that he has some quality, not least when he came on against Ashford, and I think he was one of the better players (of a bad bunch) tonight, his cross at the end of the first half should have been converted by either Miller or Williams. His problem is consistency, although this probably isn't helped with him being in and out of the team. Maybe with a run we could start to see him develop as a quality player. Let's just hope the players can turn it round on Saturday. I'm sure I speak for all Slough fans when I say that none of us enjoy berating performances or players but sometimes the situation can just get to a stage where frustration gets the better of you. So come on guys, go out and perform on Saturday against Hampton and show what you are all capable of (prove you don't need the magic of Ryan after all <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />). That's Spencer NOT Williams by the way!!!!!

Miller - Works hard for the team and I thought didn't play too badly last night. Kept working hard and it was great to see him get the goal.

Harris - Has been in very poor form since joining. Shows glimpses of what he is capable of and could be exactly what we need on the wing if he had a bit more pace about him. He's got the trickery and the quality of the ball delivery, he just keeps failing to impress for long spells.

As for our defence, their idea of distributing the ball out from the back? Hoof. The days of Stott & Holsgrove as centre backs was the time. Two people who could defend but could also play football rather than head down and kick it long and high into the channels for a short ish striker to try and win a header against someone about a foot taller than him. Genius.

Quote from Walton forum

"Well played last night Swans - a bloody marvellous performance. Please, please keep it going. Every single player played his heart out. It was a performance the fans have been aching for all season."

Reminds me of a few seasons ago, when week in week out, teams played their best games of the season against us.

we were cr*p, bottom line. Never have I been so embarrassed to be a Slough fan after.... whatever the hell that was last night, because it sure wasn't football. I didn't clap the team off the pitch for the simple reason that they didn't [****!!****] deserve it. Eddie, i think it's time to leave before we get even [****!!****] worse

i don't think eddie should leave at all

he has had a good crack at being a manager but it is not his time at the moment

he should stay as assistant working with someone with experience

when he came to slough he was a player

he then took over as assistant manager

then when brown left he could have left as well, he didnt

was it because he saw an opportunity, i think it was

so lets not have a go at the bloke for doing something we would all like to have done, take the bosses job

lets get someone with experience, maybe after a few years apprentiship eddie could be quite good

look at chelsea thier manager was crap until he spent 120 million

First Chris, now why is everyone saying what I'm about to say before I do? In other words, again somebody has taken the words not only out of my mouth, but I'm sure everybody else thinks the same as you do, am I right?
