As a casual observer, I was very impressed with Slough's workrate and application today. Agree with the above about Webb, and I thought Wells and Jackman put in great shifts too. Difficult to judge the result against this opposition as they clearly have never been involved in matches where the other team tackles, but positive signs for the season ahead

I first got involved when one of the Slough players oft he 50's Jacubiec lived with the family as a lodger in Cippenham. I used to clean his boots.

Started watching in earnest at the Dolphin.  Used to go to Slough college but bunked off in the evenings when the lights were switched on for the mid week games. Some of my best memories were the Wycombe and Blyth games at the Dolphin and also Runcorn and Skelmersdale away ( where I ran a coach and won a fortune playing crib on the coach. haha)

Initally involved on the Football committee during Gordon Greig's time and then Mervyn Jones and Alan Humphries .With many others helped to build the terracing on Sunday mornings at Wexham Park. Although I moved to Maidenhead and latterly Kings Langley. Also doorman for the old discos and Social Treasurer at Wexham Park.

Many of those involved at Wexham Park are still part of the fabric today .

Now serving on the Supporters trust.

Disagree on the comments about West Brom, within their side 5 have been involved in first team games, this year and last year, of the u23 lads two were out on loan last season at Yeovil playing 38 games and at Dagenham being involved in Conference National play offs... let's not do our lads a disservice, 6 of that team that started today beat league 1 Walsall on Wednesday night also...

They were not kids, they are professional footballers at a Premier League club.

After giving them a bit to much respect first half, we upped our game second half, and it is not an exaggeration that we completely dominated.

Fitness levels also being top drawer.

Obviously only a friendly but we are moving in the right direction.

As a suggestion perhaps the 2 posts about 'how did you become a Slough supporter' could be moved to start a new thread?

I thought first half we had to dig deep to stay in the game with WBA seeing a lot of the ball and always looking dangerous with their pace and skill. I think we did show them too much respect in the first half probably due to being a bit apprehensive playing a full time premiership outfit.

Second half we started on the front foot and for the remaining 45 minutes we looked the better side eventually running out worthy winners.

Overall an excellent team performance with several players putting in their best performance of pre season.

As Unders intimated in his interview, picking the 11 to start the Kettering game just got that bit harder.

Didn't really notice first half but didn't see Gavin James in the dug out for the second half?

Unfortunately Gav picked up an injury on Thursday night blocking a shot, and turning his ankle slightly, he was hopeful he would be fit, and if a league game probably would have played, but being a friendly there was no point in risking it, we hope he will be fine for Tuesday.

That is something that really stuck out to me mid way through the second half, our fitness levels were immense if you were a neutral you would have picked Slough out as the full time team.  Did laugh when two balls came onto the pitch and someone shouted "good Idea let West Brom have one!"  Good luck John & Neil picking the team for Kettering! Really excited for the season ahead! Don`t forget those that came today buy your reduced Season Tickets by Monday!

Although it was a game where we had nothing to prove, we did prove that we have a squad that can take on anyone and give them a game.  However WBA are a Premiership squad and to be turned over big time by a team 6 levels lower just goes to show that big money does not buy that winning passion that the Slough players showed yesterday.

For me there was no MOTM for Slough yesterday as the players all gave 100% as their part in the privilege of being in Super Kev's testimonial - MOTM for the last 32 years commitment - Kevin McGoldrick.

I never get carried away with pre-season results but we are looking very good. We were more than a match for a them fitness wise and from a purely athletic perspective, we have outworked two professional sides in the second half. The whole squad looks at it.

I'd say we have 15-16 players who should be playing week in week out and I have no idea who our best 11 is. Speaking to the gaffers after the game I suspect they have no idea either!

COYR!
