I agree regarding the likely goal tally with better organised defences which reinforces the fact that different eras cannot easily be compared. As you say Peter was a remarkable player but nevertheless due to his languid nature there were some who would say he was lazy and no good despite the goals he scored! I was not in that camp and was sorry when he left to emigrate to Australia. I also had no-one left to send in my scintillating crosses to (or flukes as others would say) during the lunch time matches. Mind you Peter had the ability to turn a rubbish cross into something of beauty.

Misty water coloured memories of the way we were........ I can feel a song coming on.....

David, no offence meant but things get desperate on this forum when we are starved of Slough FC news ! ha ha

For awhile you had me thinking of the Hovis advert with the boy pushing his bike up the hill in a bygone town in Yorkshire !  :D

That's why gave a bit of an apology in the first place. However the point I was reinforcing is that you cannot compare different eras. This post started off in that vein extolling the virtues of current FGR and Slough's result against them (as Stroud) "a short while ago" -1989/90 (!) when they were "a few leagues below us" - 1 step. Anyway currently I am looking forward to travelling to Northampton on Sunday with the Slough Town PALS team who have a good chance of winning their league. On Monday 4 of them will be taking part in a representative math at the Madjeski Stadium. So good luck to them.

No need to apologize David, I'm sure we'd all like to hear some more of your 'yarns' from the 'good old days'

And good luck to the Slough Town PALS team.
