Martin
The FA has announced that from next season at our level and below a yellow card for dissent will see a player temporarily dismissed for 10 minutes. Could make for an interesting season!
lazarus
It's only at Step 7 in selected leagues next season, as an experiment
David Carpenter
Will they have TV monitors to make sure the 10 minutes is strictly adhered to?
staines_rebel_Jr
A bit of confusion between reporters of this as many don't understand the difference between steps and levels of the English football pryamid. We currently play at level 7 (step 3). BBC are reporting it will affect step 7, which would be 4 levels below us, but assuming they mean LEVEL 7 then it would affect us. It will be interesting to see how they plan to enforce it and where the player will have to go, also considering there are no 4th officials at this level they might struggle to make sure the player is off for the full ten minutes. Other part is how and when do they decide the player can come back on, is it immediately after ten minutes or at the first stop in play after ten minutes. Radders
BBC report I've just read seems to clarify it will be level 7 and Sunday league. Shame as I would have liked to see what difference it makes to players behaviour.
staines_rebel_Jr
It seems the bbc have updated their report as earlier they were saying "step 7, one level below National league north/south". Will also be interesting to see how it works at Sunday league level were most of the time there is only one official to enforce it, with each team usually having to provide someone to be a linesman. Martin
Ah blame the Beeb. I read their initial report which was one league below National South. Don't envy the refs trying to enforce this in the Sunday league! Much easier IMO to implement at a higher level with stewarding and a number of coaches on the sidelines. The Donnelly's could probably take it in turn to be in that sin bin, one goes in the other comes out.
Matt
What if a goalkeeper is booked for dissent? Will we then have a further few minutes' stoppage whilst the team decides who is taking over in goal, putting on the shirt etc.? Sounds like an idea that has good intentions but is unlikely to work in practice.

Bernie Gogan
About as useful as the experiment with a kick in instead of a throw in back in the 90s, the yellow card for taking a shirt off or celebrating a goal with your home crowd, the "new" offside law or sending off for raising a foot etc., etc., etc. Tampering for tampering's sake. Sin Bin should be for a minimum 30 minutes, not 10 minutes anyway if it's going to have any affect at all.
Longshot
Can you really see this happening at the top level of football. Players already get away with murder when they swear at the officials and call them all kinds of unprintable names. They kick the ball away at a free kick at every opportunity, They run 30 yards to stop a free kick being taken quickly, The match officials do nothing about any of this. If the sin bin comes in it will only work if the officials implement it which in my opinion they rarely will.
Matt
I get the feeling that referees may quickly lose control if there are multiple cases of dissent happening at the same time. I didn't experience the 'kick-in' experiment but am sure I heard stories of referees ignoring it in certain leagues and allowing players to continue with throw-ins. I wonder if the same might happen if this sin bin experiment fails.
Bernie Gogan
The kick in experiment was not in place of the throw in. Some clubs, St. Albans in particular I think, decided NEVER to use a kick in. However, you could choose either within a game. Still a waste of time of course and only run in the Isthmian League for one season & not all leagues above or below.
