INs and OUTs

The problem with that statement is a very obvious one though Curtis and its "if injury free" if you look at the list there you have the following;

Scott - long term injury

Stonehouse - Gone

Hewitt - Gone

Nisbett - injured for a few games and missed i believe 7 games via suspension

Hollis - injured / missed more games this year than ever before (very understandibly so however)

Harris - injured more this season

Williams - longer term injury

Barney - long term injury

Moone - Gone

James - injured loads

So through that squad you have 3 players gone completely, 3 players with long term injuries and quite a few others with injury issues on an ongoing basis. Will certainly have to be something the managers will need to address is the quality of player v injury concerns. Certainly a tough job.

Before the season started I thought we were three-four quality players short to win the title.

We were immensely unlucky to lose Harrison Gilkes before the league season got under way, however to my surprise and a few others, Slough were the team setting the pace in the first couple of months. Up to the Xmas,

Slough had performed admirably in the league.

Unfortunately January was a month to forget, apart from the 0-6 thrashing of Leamington !

February and March bought a very mixed bag of results and by the end of March and April with the loss of Mark Scott and the creativity and class of Manny Williams and our rock steady eddie,Guy Hollis, our team started to look ragged, lacked belief, and by the time of the play off, looked like they weren't really up for promotion.

I don't blame this on Bakes and Unders, they tried to strengthen and get Slough back on track with the signing of Liam Enver Marum and Callum Bunting, unfortunately neither player had the impact one had hoped for.

To me I thought we relied too much on Lee Togwell and Simon Dunn in the centre of midfield in the latter games. Even as good as they are, when Manny Williams got injured, a lot of creativity and attacking ideas went with him.

I did think we missed several opportunities, to use one of our talented wide players in a more central role to negate Manny's loss but those two points are the only gripes I've got, on what can only go down as a very good season.

All in all, a very creditable 5th place finish and a play off place but from now, still room for progress.

Although we shouldn't be surprised but the report in one of the local papers states some of our players are in demand and attracting interest. Problem is we don't obviously want to lose any of our better players and we'll be limited to what we can offer them especially if it's clubs in a higher division.

Not surprised by LEM being released, he never showed anything to claim a spot ahead of Flood or James in my opinion, plus I know I wasn't the only person at the play off semi final annoyed at the lack of effort he put in on the night.

I thought LEM was putting in plenty of effort, but the quality of our overall offensive play and the excellent defensive work of Leamington meant that he got little joy from his endeavours. I will admit that he looked a frustrated figure towards the end, but that can be said about all of our team and to us supporters!

Strange one really as he has the pedigree and history shows he can score at this level and higher but just didn't show enough fight and enthusiasm for me. So one of the 4 new players I guess will be a striker plus I think a central midfielder plus the 2 to replace Scotty and Stoney.

With Paul Stonehouse signing for Hungerford lets hope we haven't dropped a clanger in letting him go.

Quality left backs are hard to find but I would think Bakes and Unders had a left back lined up before releasing Stoney.

I thought Paul Stonehouse struggled for fitness and because of this wasn't at his best, with this in mind he seemed up against on 3g, so it should suit both parties with him moving on.

It looks like we have a goalkeeper lined up, in the shape of Jack Turner from Staines Town FC, if the rumours are true.

What rumours?

Nothing on social media that says he's signed for any team.

Well it's official on Staines Town's website confirming Jack has left. Looking at his Twitter it seems he's a very popular and well regarded keeper who I'm sure will be in demand, will we have enough to convince him to sign for us?

As he's left Staines it's pretty certain that he knows his destination.

The elephant in the room is Mark Scott. We need a top goalkeeper and I dont believe any would join Slough on the basis that they are No1 until/ if Mark is fit and cleared to play again I believe we need to appoint a No1 who retains that position so long as his form doesnt desert him What do others think?
