INs and OUTs

Recommended Posts

I'm not saying anything about in's and out's, I don't think it's right. Just a question about Lee Barney.

Why would you want him out, as he's played 8.86 games this season and scored 6 goals I can't see your logic behind this? That's 3/4 of a goal per game.

The reason I said Lee Barney, is not about his goal scoring ability, hence why I said about players coming back to the club. I just think he has had a long lay off because of a bad injury and so has Harrison Gilkes. I wouldn't go into next season carrying two outfield players getting over bad injuries. I would only go with one, that being Harrison Gilkes. Different case entirely with Mark Scott.

My logic is that our forward line needs enhancing and we should be able to entice two quality forwards to add to Chris Flood and Gav James.

It would be better for Lee to get back to match fitness at another club and then when fully fit, if we need him and he wants to, we might be able to get him back,  if he can get his sharpness back to be able to play on the rigours of 3g, and if either of our forwards aren't doing the business.

Next season, I'm hoping we will aim to challenge for the top 3 and to challenge for the title. Not going to be easy to do but we shouldn't be going into the season carrying injury prone players especially with 3g being so unforgiving and our form on winter away pitches.

As many have said before, sorry to see some of the players leave but the manager's heads must rule and not the heart.

Although Lewis was very popular I query whether he had enough to be a regular in the side next year, he was very predictable in his play and was not particularly good at tracking back and tackling. I feel sorry for Gary who in my opinion was a very loyal "squad" player. However, for his own benefit, he needs more game time than we could offer him.

We need to be able to add some players who will take us up a notch or two on the current team.

We also need  players who can play "ugly" when required. Although we have all enjoyed watching this side, particularly at home on a perfect surface, we have struggled against the physical teams ie Hitchin and Chesham and also on the bobbly dry pitches later in the year. A tough midfield player who can "mix it " a bit would support Dunny and Togs. Similarly as has already been stated a big physical nr 9 would support the likes of Floody and Gav.

I would also like to see our captain being a bit more verbal during the games.

Are we looking at two teams? One for 3G pitches and another for the dry, bumpy surfaces?

All said and done a great season and we have played some of the best football I have seen from Slough for many a year. Thanks to al of the Management, Players and Staff for making it a successful homecoming  lets hope we can go onto even better things next year and see our gates increase even further.

3spirit - 100% agree with all of that said a couple of posts above.

SRJ - having seen Egham a fee times this season and knowing how big of a step up Central to Prem is, neither Mathews or Pashaj are good enough IMO.

The 2 players Id like to see as a starting point are Ryan Blake from Chesham, can play wing and up front, is quick and strong and scores goals. The other is Tom Broadbent from Hayes and Yeading. A very tall, imposing centreback who is quick, strong and good in the air.

Redwine - at the original time of Scotty's injury he was told at least Oct/Nov to start training, then i would say he'll need at least a month or so of training and games before making a return. Id be surprised if we see him before the new year (and in fairness he might have all intentions of coming back, but that first time he has to go down at the feet of an attacker will tell everything and probably be the defining moment for him).

Togs and a couple of others I'd put in the maybe/squad player box.

It's funny that Togs splits opinion. In the main, he seems the fans favourite. I believe his form this season deserves at least another season with us but I'm not as convinced as some, that he is our saviour in the arts of centre midfield play.

As has been stated we have come on leaps and bounds this season but there are areas needed to improve our squad for next season for progression. Midfield is one such area.

Togs will still be a vital component of our team/squad but if anything we've been over reliant on him this season and in some games it hasn't suited the type of game we need to play.

His versatility and assured play is an asset worth keeping but let's not get carried away, he isn't the be all end all.

I think Ryan Blake is a good shout and a possibility [unlike other seasons when his name has come up] what with Andy Leese's departure and the likely changes to the Chesham squad. I know Reading Rebel would be happy if we got Ryan Blake and I wouldn't be unhappy !

Ironically, that said, after seasons of wanting him at the club, I'm not as convinced he is an exact match to the striker/s I want us to go after. However, I wouldn't be disappointed if we got him !

I've seen a fair bit of Tom Broadbent. He is one of Hayes and Yeading's better players but for me he isn't a central defender I would go for.

I think every one of the players can hold their head up high and Stoney and Putts in particular have really done a great job for us in the last couple of seasons. There were games last year when Putts was the most likely player to do something to change the direction of a game - he's not had enough game time this year to have the same impact but I'll miss that. Suspect we'll see him again at at least this level.

In general I think the squad is strong enough to challenge again next year. I'd like a slightly more seasoned guy to add to the squad (probably in midfield) who can make sure the whole team is both up for and confident about big games, or games when they really matter. (On Wednesday I felt they were up for it but just a little affected by both the occasion and the physical and direct approach of the opposition.) I think Dunny/Togs will be that player in short order and that's why they were really engaged in the game, but it would be great to have someone alongside them who spreads that throughout the team.

Exactly, Guy has been outstanding for us and as for throw ons hes the best.

AND guess what, he's my favourite x

Guy does have very long throw in but how many times has it led to a goal?

Unless the throw is deadly accurate I really don't think we've got the height and muscle to take advantage of them.

Next season in my opinion is going to be far harder than this year... if the likelihood of Salisbury and Farnborough get promoted, along with Hereford and Royston who have conference level players throughout and knocking on door for years! As well as the usual suspects from this year.

I would argue that next season will be the highest quality step 3 league for a long long time!!

Max Worsfold, excellent player but again he's predominantly a wide left sided midfielder.

What about the Staines captain Tommy Brewer, he's a talker and a leader.

I think you will find we just let go of 2 wide midfielders so need to find replacements!!!

Plus added bonus he has previously played at left back, a position which we currently have no players for!!!

3spirit - i would put Broadbent in with Hollis, Jesse Wilson and then an experieced head to replace Nis who i think has been pretty decent but not had the real leadership impact i expected. Will certainly be an interesting one through the summer.

SloughFlyer, don't agree with you about Mark Nesbitt. The squad needs to strengthen but not decimate the whole team. We've just finished 5th in the table and made the first play off.The squad needs tinkering with, not a massive over haul.

Mark Nesbitt has been a quality addition this season imo, so there is no way him or Guy Hollis should leave. From my angle, I would be looking for a man mountain/experienced player in the mould of Nathan Bowden Haase to compete and complement those two.

We need to add physicality to our play. That is an area where Slough have been a soft touch.

I would like to see us attempt to play 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 at home on 3g, when the opposition warrant it.

If we can get the right components in, we will also not be the pushovers away from home.We need to wise up away from Arbour Park.

I don't want to see the Slough Town team turn into the prototype of Hitchin fc but I do think we need to bolster our pack with at least 3 players,in defence/centre midfield/central attack ,who won't give the opposition an easy afternoon, and that they bring a certain resilience to our squad.

That way we have players who can adapt to the conditions we play on, we have flexibility in formation and personal to adapt to when we want to play a tight defensive game or a long, direct one, or keep our positive attacking passing football [be it in a diamond or a 4-4-2/4-3-3].

Our right hand side isn't the problem and we're well covered in that area  but the left hand side is. Losing Paul Stonehouse and Lewis Putman needs addressing. I would look for a younger, fitter bigger left back to what Paul Stonehouse offerered. Ben Walster of Hitchin fc comes to mind but won't be able to get him !

We also need back up for Dobbo.Perhaps on this we should look at a cheaper option and take a chance on a young up and comer.Someone willing to sit on the bench but enthusiastic and keen to learn and improve.

Does anyone have any ideas? ha ha !
